Dry Ice near Gerlach

We are arriving Friday night and I am wondering where the closest place to buy dry ice is near Gerlach.

Try Reno or Sparks. Gerlach, wadsworth, empire and nixon are kinda out in the boonies. Do a search on eplaya for dry ice and you'll find recommendations.

There's an ice company on 4th in Reno (near 395) that does dry ice. Google "Dry Ice" and "Reno".

In Reno you have :

Praxair on Glen Carran Cir (775) 355-5882
Glacier Mountain on West 4th (775) 323-5145

Reno is only 90 miles or so from Gerlach, I would not recommend trying to get any needed supplies in any of the smaller towns. At least in Reno you know the city is big enough to have almost anything you would need.

Don't plan on purchases in Gerlach, and the Empire Store is unnaturally crowded pre-burn. I think "town" is too big a word for either place.

THAT'S IT!!!

I used to cart DI up, but now I get it at Crystal, and they're 25 cents cheaper than the bay area!!!

Note its WEST 4th st. that makes a dif. Figure #10 a day. BIG coolers. worth it!!

Gads... all this planning again... gets me...

There's also a Scolari's in Sparks on Pyramid Way.

If you're coming from the Bay Area take the exit after John Ascuaga's Nugget, go left under the freeway and that's Pyramid Way. Scolari's is about a half-mile on the left. Pyramid Way is also a nice shortcut to Pyramid Lake, you shave about a half-hour off.

Dry ice is primarily used for keeping food FROZEN till later in the week...
LAYER::10 lbs dry ice ::brown bags ::food :: tape cooler shut with duct tape.

touch as little as possible during week, you know, unwrap, grap tonights dinner hurry up re-tape...fast!
trying not to open, at all till end of week, is even better so say have 2 dry ice coolers...one for beginning of week one for the end.
cause everytime you open the buggers they melt down.

I always mix dry ice and ice from crystal.
I use one cooler just to store ice, then switch.
Use coolers with insulated tops.
Shade and cover with quilts and whatever.
I get a week and can keep milk.
Dry ice can carbonate.
I never had a problem.
The dry ice is gone quickly and supercools the ice.
Some people use nothing else but dry ice.

Note: Crystal does not accept credit cards. I don't think they take out of state checks either. They supply several of the other places that
sell it. Albertson's and Simply Water are right around the corner,
so you can get a bunch of supplies in one neighborhood.

Our camp uses an enhanced shipping foam cooler to store the dri ice
all week. It's an Omaha Steaks shipper with extra foam/Great Stuff
around it in a wood frame. Been using that since 2000. Block ice
keeps longer, too. Cubes cool faster (beer, soda).

As of June 19th, dry ice was $0.95 per pound at Crystal Ice.

Damn, they were 89Â¢/lb last year. Still cheaper than the bay area.

Also - they took my card last year when I was there. Is this a new thing about no visa, no checks? Shit...
