Diesel Industrial Generator 5000 watts elect start

Postby gyre » Tue Feb 27, 2007 11:05 pm

I know someone who is not keeping a generator.
It is an electric start diesel generator made by Titan Industrial.
It's a model TG 5500D 120/240 volts. 34/17 amps
It is rated at 5000 watts and is new.

They are asking half the original price.
Half would be $2500.

Email me if interested and I'll put you in touch with them.

I never checked.
I've seen the original papers.
I guess they have come down.
If they sell new for that, make this guy an offer based on that.
He'll say yes or no.

The gas version was about half as much.
I don't know if there are other differences.

I haven't done any comparisons to this one, but when I was looking for an industrial grade model for my trailer, I couldn't find anything cheap.
I didn't want a short life version or a loud one.
I found an extremely good diesel generator used on yachts for low noise and reliability.
But nobody ever lets one go used.
I think they start at $7-10,000.
Very quiet.

Thermo-King has a very cool unit that runs a small generator and drives an air conditioner so you can shut down your engine.
Does heat too.
High reliability and low fuel consumption.
Like most things that work well, it's a bit pricey.

I'm setting everything up that I need to run on 12 volt DC. A deep cycle marine battery is $70, and probably won't need to be charged all week.

If you're going to buy a genny they seem to be getting cheaper and cheaper. I got my Briggs and Stratton powered 5000 for like 300 bucks new. It sat for a few years for a hurricane that never came, I got it used some marvel mystery oil in the plug and gas and oil.. started right up 12 hours later. That year and last year we had a bunch of hurricanes in South FL and lost power a bunch. I am sure the seller regrets the sale now. It is not diesel or electric start but who cares for 300 clams. Retail was fetching about 500-600 when I was lookin 3 years ago. I specifically wanted a pull start since theres less that can "go wrong". Next one will be a diesel if I get around to upgrading. One thing I like about the B&S is the paperwork I got from them.. parts list, disassembly views etc etc. I can also adjust it a fair amount for elevation and whatnot fairly easily.

The owner still has the generator.
If anyone is interested, make a reasonable offer before he advertises it.
It is new and I can check it out further, if anyone is interested.
This is the only notice about it now.

I've seen 5000 watt diesel generators new selling for $999, and 5000 watt 'whisper quiet' diesels selling new for $1600. And being new equipment, they should be ready to run bio-diesel as-is.

The down-side, aside from the high cost, is the weight. Most generators I've seen in that range weight between 200-400lbs. If I had the space, the ability to move it easily, and the money, I'd be all over a diesel generator. :-)

I've seen generators that sell used for $150.
The one I'd like to have produces 8kw and sells for $7000.
Some are worth more than others.

Whoever buys this one, sets it's current value.
