4-wheelers /offroaders for Jungo Rd. Caravan?

Post by [CDS] topher » Thu Jul 26, 2007 6:20 am

Yes, yes, I know we're 'discouraged' from using Jungo road as an access to the playa.

But Some of us are experienced offroaders, are equipped to deal with offroad emergencies, flats, getting stuck & unstuck, have hilifts and winches and snatch straps and snatch blocks and spares up the wazoo and all the rest.

So I'm looking for someone who'd like to join us for a trip from Winnemucca to the playa via Jungo road, preferably leaving Winnemucca in afternoon on Sunday, so as to arrive at the gates right around opening time.

If you're interested please contact me at chris followed by the 'at sign' at chrismaytag.net, and don't bother if you won't be driving a well eqiuipped 4wd truck/car with at LEAST one spare. CB or FRS radio mandatory, etc.

I've been going since 1997, and it'll be nice to get there a new way this year.

Damn that sounds like fun. I'll be comming from Carson City area so I have no need (or desire) to drive 140 miles east to Winnemucca and then back.. I've only been on that road a few times from SR447 (Empire area) east to the old town of Sulphur and back. In October 06, my wife and I took her stock 2005 Jeep Liberty on it to Sulphur. I drove the whole trip and guess what, ran over a rock no bigger than a door knob and sliced the R. rear sidewall. It's hard not to run over rocks on that road since theres a bazillion of them that size all over the road. They appear to be rounded but if you run one over the right angle and speed, it can happen. I've taken that truck (No self respecting Jeep owner would ever refer to their ride as a car, worse yet an suv) on several Class II roads without a hitch. First time I take her along and look what happens. She thought we were gonna die out there. She had some books and magazines with her and I used some for a base so the jack would'nt sink in the dirt. She gladly donated them. Soon as I got the the wimpy all season spare on, someone came by and asked if everything was cool as I was putting the jack away. Saw a herd of pronghorns near Trego hot spring on that trip.
