My boyfriend and I are coming down to San Francisco to combine Burning Man into a two week vacation from Toronto.
Now, we don't want to pack things like our gasmasks, helmuts and other fun army style gear in our checked baggage but would rather buy some in SF and mail it home after BurningMan.
Does anyone have some favorite spots in town for military/surplus shopping? Or feel like shopping with us before the Burn? [We get into town on the 22nd]
Army surplus in SF?
Army surplus in SF?

There's one on Haight Street, near the intersection of Haight-Ashbury.
1541 Haight St, San Francisco - (415) 861-6404
Anther on Market, though I haven't been to that one myself...
1055 Market St, San Francisco - (415) 863-3486
While the store on Haight is kinda small, they have lots of stuff and it's part of a cool district you guys can have fun exploring.
Good luck!

That would be "Costumes on Haight". Clever, eh?chrispburn wrote:there are some good costume, resale & thrift shops on Mission street and on Haight St. (one in particular in Lower Haight is a costume rental shop (NOT for the playa) but they have accessories like goggles, E-L wire and wigs, etc.
It's a camping trip in the desert, not the redemption of the fallen world - Cryptofishist

Sweet...
I'm making a list of spots we need to stop into. :)
I can't wait to go back to Haight Street - I had so much fun exploring there.
If only I could find an SF versions of Toronto's Active Surplus.
Due to my current lack of conversational skills due to sleep deprivation, I'll quote:
"Active Surplus is pretty much the coolest store on Queen Street West here in Toronto. Sure, Queen is full of cool, hip, with-it stores catering to the cool, hip, with-it crowds, but Active has cool, hip, with-it crap like 1-foot long gauges that measure "Toe" in increments of 2 degrees, or mysterious circuit boards from crashed alien spacecraft, or even boxed Atari games! Everything your average electronic junk fiend like myself salivates over."
"Well, there are all sorts of affordable tools, components for electronics (i.e. transistors, diodes, circuits, etc) and some consumer electronics items, as well as fans, signs, and various gizmos. You'll find surplus (unused) medical supplies and various different items. If you can imagine it, it's probably passed through the store at some point or other. Definatly a place for the curious and the crazy builder among us."
