Virgin needs a space in an RV!
I've got my BM ticket, my plane ticket to Reno, and a bike in Gerlach. Now I need a place in an RV because the one I was in fell through.
I'm a techno/rave/chill kind of guy that MUST get to BM this year. I'm also a very neat and responsible. You can read my bio at http://www.theeventsyndicate.com/founders.htm.

This is exactly the sort of bio that makes me want to take him in a piece of equipment that cost 10s? 100s? of thousands of dollars.

People told me there would be people who just don't get the spirit of BM. Thanx for the reality check!

The reality check about coming to burning man is that YOU have to be self supporting to sustain your life. Are you READY for that?? huh? huh?

You havent even been there yet, and your schooling others on "Getting BM?" How about you enlighten us by telling it is what were missing, since you have such vast knowledge of the playa and BM etiquette?PassionForward wrote:People told me there would be people who just don't get the spirit of BM. You know, things like whats playa dust smell like, taste like, hows it feel under your feet, and in your hair. Whats the vibe at center camp like at 3AM? how about the messages on the temple - or the different feel from the man burn.
my adivce:
Buy a 20 dollar tent, food, sleeping bag, water and be a man about it.

Oh dear dwag. I'm a nasty piece of work, but Badger is pretty much made from congealed spirit of Burningman. Oh playa, he'll get all this and from a bullhorn. Definitely take a year off, and grow a thicker skin.PassionForward wrote:People told me there would be people who just don't get the spirit of BM. Thanx for the reality check!

If you can't take care of yourself you don't belong on the playa.
Sometime I wish they'd outlaw RV or require something like a DMV special permit. A bunch of RV in a circle is not a themecamp.
Anyhow redical self sufficients and get a tent! Hell who need a tent. They get hot in the day. Sleep under the stars on a mat.

My first year I really thought I needed to be in an RV. There was one in my camp, but it was full. Not wanting to sound like a whiner, I bought a cheap tent, air matress and sleeping bag. All these years later, I am still using that $30 tent (patched up) and wouldn't want things any other way. I love the feeling of being zipped up in the tent on a windy night and having to pile on another blanket for warmth.
I hope the New Yorkster dude considers the tent route for his first year and really puts the radical self reliance thing to the test. It sure beats the Marriott, and you may find the real meaning of this crazy adventure we call Burning Man!

The box for the tent said "one incredible fucking tent for just $29.95". They weren't kidding. I've used it for 6 years and have just a few small patches on it. It holds up really well with the wind, but I use larger tent stakes. The tent weighs only 5 lbs. or so, so it fits in my suitcase easily. This is going to come in very handy when my wife throws me out of the house for missing moving my son into college this year. The idiots at his school made move in day Thursday during Burning Man. What the hell were they thinking?
I was originally thinking RV for my first burn this year, but my experience from previous festivals and what I have read here really say its not necessary. My buddy and I are planning to fly from Virginia to Reno, rent an SUV and then head to Wal-Mart (though I hate them) for a tent, sleeping bags, food, water, etc. Maybe bikes too if we can find used ones.
I plan to gift the tent to someone or donate it when we get back to Reno, bikes also.
Maybe not a perfect plan, but do-able

Be aware that the playa can be rough on bikes and tents. It is possible that the only thing you'll be donating is a headache.Medium wrote: I plan to gift the tent to someone or donate it when we get back to Reno, bikes also.

I donated garbage and money to the landfill in Fernley. Let's not talk about what I donated to the car washtheCryptofishist wrote:Be aware that the playa can be rough on bikes and tents.
