Nesting camp in need of blankets and pillows!

Post by Smallfry » Wed Jun 03, 2009 9:54 pm

Hey burners! So my buddy and I are working on a theme camp this year. We're calling it the Atrium. Basically, we're building giant wooden nests and creating a mellow chill/cuddle space for the playa. We want to have a variety of blankets and pillows so that everyone can set their nests up as they please. We'd really like to not have to buy a bunch of blankets and pillows. A) we're poor, and B) it'd be more nest-y feeling if everything had been lived in a little. So basically, do you have any old blankets, quilts, afghans, comforters, throw pillows, etc. that you don't need? If so, please send 'em our way! You can write on here or PM me if you like. Thanks guys, and see you all at the burn!

Well, I can't help you directly, but I know around here during student move out week, you can find all kinds of things like blankets and pillows in the dumpsters-- both behind the dorms and around the student housing area of town. Unfortunately, that was a couple weeks ago, so all of that has either been harvested, or gone to the landfill.

Good luck.

That would've been perfect! Unfortunately, we hadn't made plans for the camp by then. Hopefully we'll find what we need.

Actually I think that was Isotopia not One Eyed Dick. So in these fucked up economic times, when everyone else is trying to get their own shit ready for the burn, you want people to ship you BIG boxes of worn out shit? I might suggest that you start hitting up your local second hand stores, garage sales, flea markets, friends, etc. I'm sure you should be able to find what you're looking for, and keep your eyes out for a a slightly used sense of humor while you're at it.

Oh, and your idea sounds pretty fucking cool. Good luck.

We have a number of old blankets and comforters which would be perfect. MyLarry brings them home all the time; truckers toss them when the quit. These are lived in, but have been washed once. shipping them would cost way too much. We're very, very reliable and could deliver them on the playa.

Sound good?

Actually I was thinking more along the lines of what AntiM was saying. We don't need them in advance, so just bringing them to the playa would be way easier for both us and anyone donating their stuff. And the thrift store thing is basically our gameplan if we can't get much donated.

On that note, that sounds great, AntiM! Thanks for being so helpful!

Oh, and I'll work on that whole "sense of humor" thing.

Hell even ISO isn't ISO...it's just Badger, but with a vagina.

Although both Iso and Badger can be and often are dicks. But they're usually dicks to the clueless, the stupid and the arrogant. Neither of them have ever apologized for that.

Don't expect an apology to ever be forthcoming.

Have a mediocre day.

In the Bay Area we have three institutions that could help.
1--Thrift Store. Amazing. People bring stuff they no longer want to a store and give it to them. The store people sell it to other people, usually for not much money.
2--Garage Sale. People cut out the middle man and try to get a little cash by selling to people not out of a store front, but out of their garage. Look for signs on light poles.
3--Freecycle. People post in a special place on the internet with stuff they are trying to get rid of. Other people come by and take it.

Of course, we live in a very progressive area with all sorts of avant guarde institutions. You may get vertigo contemplating these.
