need to unload 40-foot container of a truck

Post by fool-member » Mon Jun 08, 2009 5:07 am

Looking for equipment to get a 40-foot container off a truck onto the ground in our camp... anytime, we can come earlier. Any help/advice appreciated.

yes, and can you also recommend how to put it back on the truck at the end of Burning Man? Maybe we dig a tunnel in the desert, under the container, drive the truck into it, then we all get on top of the container and jump, so it falls on the truck.

:o)

Any better ideas are welcome.

does said truck have a winch on the bed?
How high is said bed from the ground, approximately?
How much does the container weigh?
does the bed have a roller, or rollers?

this info will help.

If it has all that, there wouldn't be a question!
Things being how they are at Burning Man, I'd suggest trying to be self-sufficient rather than depending on someone else, even if you make prior arrangements.
If there's no practical way to arrange a self-loading truck, two 20-foot containers will fit on the same flatbed trailer and are less weight for a couple big forklifts, which the DPW has, to pick up at once. Just a thought.

Why take the container off the trailer? Just build some steps.

Center Camp Cafe uses reefer trucks to store their ice and they have simple steps up to the side door.

They also use a couple of 40 foot vans to hold supplies. Simple steps up to the back doors suffice.

For your camp just use long tarps over the top to make leantos along the container sides. Use spacers on top to keep fabric off metal roof for venting.

Big forklift or crane, depending on weight.
