BURNER IN NEED!

Post by morriszachary » Sat Jun 27, 2009 11:52 am

Hey all, hope this is the appropriate place to post this...

My name is Zach Morris, creator of this year’s funded art project 'The Drifting Encyclopedia'. My sister - the composer for our art project and a long-time burner- has been battling a debilitating disease which has made walking long distances, riding bikes, or standing for any length of time impossible. She’s returning to Burning Man for the first time in years, and we’re trying to figure out a way to give her some freedom to get around the playa without having to rely on art cars or having someone always accompany her.

We’re wondering if anyone has a scooter, or other gas or electric powered means of conveyance that she might be able to use for the BM week.

I’m based in New York, but I’ll be in San Fran a couple days before the Festival and would be happy to coordinate a pick-up anywhere in those places, or on-playa.

If anyone has such a thing that they’d be willing to lend, please contact me at [email protected]. Barring that, I'm guessing that we'll try to rent or purchase something. Any suggestions on where to purchase or rent a scooter could handle the playa would be greatly appreciated!!!

Thank you, Thank you!

-Zach

Search and browse here. All this has been answered.

Look up hotwheelz camp.

See main BM pages for handicapped vehicle licensing.

You could also go for a powered wheel chair.
The yellow pages are still a good source, and you can do some amazing searching on something called "gooo-gull."
Not to be too snarky, or anything. Also Craigslist, you could probably even put a "scooter wanted" ad there. (I know someone who just got one from a neighbor for $150.) Get someone with some mechanical sense to give it a once over. You may have to replace a battery or something. Also give it a test drive. And think about transport. Those van conversions are expensive.
The drawback with Hotwheelz is that there are more people who want transport than they have MVs for.
If she has a placard and it's not to late, you can also register with the DMV and get driving priveledges for her regular car.

$150?
Not here.

A small car with a permit might be a fallback.

I know someone with some new electrics at wholesale (bikes) if that would help.

If she does not have a placard, you will have to get creative.

It was a neighbor to neighbor thing. That's going to be pretty damn cheap; but you're never going to find it on craigslist.
