Burning Man Google Calendar
Burning Man Google Calendar
Hi everyone.
For my weekend project I put all Burning Man events into a Google calendar.
The links are here:
HTML: http://www.google.com/calendar/embed?sr ... os_Angeles
XML: http://www.google.com/calendar/feeds/bu ... blic/basic
ICal: http://www.google.com/calendar/ical/bur ... /basic.ics
You can now subscribe to it, sync your smartphone and get
notifications, clone it and modify it, search for events by camp,
time, subject matter. If the Burning Man API updates its location
field, you will even be able to search for events happening within
walking distance of your camp. And if there's enough interest, I may
code an app that will do that on-playa. In any case, I'll make the
code that I wrote to do it open-source of course of course.
It's in beta, so there may be problems or issues. If so, please be
kind. If your event is not there, it's because your event is not in
the burningman.com publicly exposed API. I'll add your event, but
you'd probably best be served adding it through BurningMan.com
And! I think you can still submit events to Burning Man, it just
won't show up in the printed who-what-where. It will, however, be in
this calendar, so get your submit on.
Look into the specifics of your calendar application, but it should be
able to sync with this one and store the events locally. You'd
probably want to pare away those events you have no interest in
attending.
If you sync your phone/computer calendar before you hit the playa,
then you don't need wireless or cellular service to receive
notifications. I did it last year with my blackberry and I actually
made it to those events that I would have kicked myself for missing:
8AM greeter shift, my friend's playa art reception, etc. I have a
wedding to go to this year that I cannot miss.
Your calendar app should take care of you.
Please share it with anyone and everyone who has an interest.

When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle.
Then I realized that the Lord doesn't work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me

What an awesome and amazing gift! However, I'm sort of a layman when it comes to using smart phones and syncing stuff. I just recently got my first smart phone, and well, I'm still learning. If it's not too much trouble for you, could you walk me through how to use your app on my phone? I have a Samsung Highlight and my provider is T-Mobile. Thank you for any help you can provide!

Token: That is the plan! In fact, the 'map' link will work :)
Queen Quill:
According to this page, you can sync your phone with Outlook: http://www.letstalk.com/samsung-highlight-ice-tmobile
And according to this page, you can sync Outlook with Google Calendar: http://www.google.com/support/calendar/ ... swer=89955
So, sync Outlook with Google, and then your phone with Outlook.
Good luck!

Thank You!
I linked to this calendar from our website at www.blackrockdiner.com.
Awesome, awesome, awesome. You've probably already left for the playa, but thank you so much!
