Art? Or shade? Or ???
We are trying to find a new home for the old mainsail from our Freedom 33 sailboat. It's white sailcloth (Dacron), but not shaped like a normal triangular sail. This sail wraps around the mast and is doubled -- laid flat, it takes the shape of a giant kite, 38 feet tall and 32 feet wide. (You can see a photo of it on the boat at www.mepsnbarry.com)
It's heavy, battened, and it can really harness the wind.
Feel free to brainstorm your ideas here, and if you've got a great idea, we'll pass it on for the cost of shipping. We're located on the North Carolina coast.
Can you think of something amazing to do with a huge sail?

You could definitely do something like that with it, although it would be even bigger than the one shown. Anyone interested in making the steel tensile framework?
In the past, we made a shade structure out of the mizzen sail, which has the same shape but is smaller. The 1/2-inch conduit and PVC pipes we used for structure were barely strong enough to hold up to the dust storms of '08 and '10.
What else could you do besides make a shade structure out of it? It's so huge, it would be great for an art installation...maybe project movies on it?
