Sometimes I'm confused by what I think is really obvious. But what I think is really obvious obviously isn't obvious.

Wholly Muther of Gawd! I'm pooped! Me, Red, and Ratty just cleaned up what could have become a big mess on that Other social media site.
Please people, it is SO important to present the correct information clearly and not let anyone go off half cocked. What one well intention but bad idea can become is a mushrooming of bad ideas. Think pimped potties. It's spreading like a damn cancer all over the city because one asshole insisted on doing it for years, and I told him point blank to stop, and suddenly it's a grand way to express yourself! It drives me up the fucking wall, these ding aligns thinking nobody has ever thought to DO something artistic about the potties because they're austere.
I really need everyone's help on this, please stomp stomp on anyone who is doing it wrong. Don't ignore it, it can only get worse.
Thanks!

Thanks Jovancst! I don't do Redditt, so thanks for directing him here. He can also contact me thru bookfade, but this is much more info (possibly than he ever wanted), and I'll be posting location info on how to sign up for Poop Patrol.

Good GAWD this is a thing?!?
Please people, discourage large theme camps from trying to cheap out by buying Porta potties.
We ALL get screwed.

Found on bookface today:
"We bought one on Craigslist (way cheap) after calling and making sure they would service it on playa. They said they would and quoted us a price. We could NOT get it dumped from Thursday on the week of the event, they flat refused after dumping it earlier in the week. We kept looking at this full porto wondering WTF do we do? We can't load it full and go down the road! My boyfriend who is a regional BM rep had to go to First Camp and inform Marian that her service provider was refusing service and she was about to have a ton of full potties that people owned left at the event. The head of DPW got on the radio and it was fixed in about an hour but it has scared us off of ever doing that shit again!"

Just rent the fucking box From USS or walk to my bank.
I'll be in my blanket fort until further notice.

Wait, I don't get it. What's wrong with buying your own porto?
The members of my camp all got together and funded a new porto so we could have one in camp.
I don't see the problem with this. It takes strain off the regular banks.
How do we "ALL get screwed". Please enlighten.

From my final wipe up it was reviewed that USS doesn't appreciate any of the other Porto companies to be sucking the private potties. These are real money makers for them and it helps offset their cost of supporting the whole city. So if one is buying a unit, I would first hopethatyouve also gotten pre-event registration to have it services by USS rather than the "low hanging fruit pickers" that are out there trying to poach the event.
So:
1- the owner could get screwed just like this guy did, as there is no financial incentive for an off brand company to support a bought unit. They could very likely leave you high and...wet. Then...
2: USS may have to take care of your unit outside of their very tight schedule to service yours instead of those that are better prepared...
And 3: they could choose to close the cost offsets for these schenanigans by tacking it on their contract. Call it a bullshit tax.

So if a caveat is necessary, if you feel you must buy one, then have it pumped by USS exclusively. It's justthe right thing to do.
Oh, and now you own a unit, and you get to store it. Gardening tool shed perhaps?

Got it. So the issue is who's pumping, not owning your own.

USS is of course who we use. I didn't know there were others doing it.

Thanks!

Glad to be of service ;)
I honestly don't know if there is any policy re USS pumping owned units, but I'd image they'd tell you if you asked (just call the 800#). Its slightly more involved than RV pumping (wash down, TP supply). At the time of registration also let them know they're owned. And have it included in your registration quote a final wash down, cause well, you'll remove it not them. Ask them if there might be hazmat issues involved w transpo. It's a reasonable question.
Gosh digital, you get to be an expert!

Thanks, robbidobbs.

Technically we are a support camp so I think ours will be lumped into the current contract with USS. The information is good though and I'm sure will be useful to others. I was not the person in charge of ordering the camp porto but will confirm all t's are crossed and i's dotted. We are just trying to make it easier to do our job! Again, thanks for all the info!

Yes if your camps unit is considered a department extension, then you'd be lumped in the org rental herd, no need to purchase in this case. Just go w the flow.

I don't think I could do better Sham. I'd start w a large sheet of plywood and paint it white poorly. All the lettering would be in stencil font. I don't think I can do comic sans freehand ;p

Paint the letter areas with red and let dry.

Then use painters tape to make block letters for the message.

Now paint the whole thing yellow.

Let dry and pull the tape off.

The reason for yellow and red is the stark contrast of the colors and draws the eye better than black and white!!!

Robbi who is in charge of those 'Burma Shave' type signs we see on the way in? Contact them with your request.

I emailed HazMatt just today.
Brilliant minds do think alike!
It was to get feasibility on the idea. Next would logically be a prototype. I was going to hit up the best artist I know, Kilbuck, but undoubtedly he's unbelievably swamped. He'd be ideal, but he's got a whole Man Base do now.

There were some Burma Shave signs I saw last year, I'd just like to get a billboard, similar to the firearms sign.

Can you draw it on a piece of paper and add the wording so I can get an idea of what you want?

I was now just thinking something along the lines of "no trash including flushable wipes in the Porta potties" in multiple

Can you get anything in print to be included with the handouts at Greeters. Not a separate paper. Just instructions and info on the existing book, map, handouts. They now include all kinds of crap about recycling and dumping your garbage. That paper could have a bit about baby wipes too.

A sticker!! I wonder what that would cost. 70,000 books. It takes 14 greeters 14 days to collate the pkgs. Or something like that. I remember Uncle Ira told me how long. But it is an air conditioned trailer plus food.
