Eplaya Site Problem?
Eplaya Site Problem?
Is anyone else having trouble getting on this site and staying on it?
I get a no such site message.
Even after I get on I lose the connection.

No such webhouse today.
Is this a problem for everyone?
The problems started here on ticket day, but why?

I come in and out at all sorts of hours and have never noticed any problems. I use spysweeper for spyware but spybot is a freeware alternative. Also make sure your OS is updated with the latest critical and security updates.. same goes for your Anti-Virus. If your software checks out start to look into hardware.. ethernet cable etc. If you are running some wireless gear make sure you enable WEP and change the default passwords. I was causing a neighbor grief when using my PSP to use their wireless router for access. Also run a firewall if you don't already.

Spyware shit dont work.
That is the fact.
The only one I knows that works for windows is Norton systemworks and what Microsoft produces.
try my "really got it going on" thread.

As close as I can get to what I posted along time ago on this topic.
Just the way it is.
Scan your computer again or re-do it from scratch after you save/backup your system.
Most of the time I can get on the burningman site but not eplaya.
Yesterday I completely lost everything.
Every other site worked fine.
That's the weird part.
I'm running windows 98se and avg antivirus.
Firefox as a browser.
Ran a complete scan yesterday.
No difference.
I have a mac that will be online soon.
I did find an occasional intermittent in the modem.
They will check that next week.
But would that explain the problem only with eplaya?
McAfee is available to me as part of roadrunner.
Is Norton that different?
Wired connection.
Any advice if I get wireless?
I need a router.
Just found out my hub is just a hub and not a router.
Email if you need to contact me directly.

It was a universal outage, your type of PC, connection, AV SW, favorite kind of jelly beans, etc had no bearing on the problem. (In other words breathe easy, it wasn't anything you had control over)
My first thought was maybe SB had got a jump on the changes he said he wanted to implement....but most likely it was all a problem generated by the spammers. Which by the way is a problem that my PrairieStar board has fixed over a year ago and I won't resist rubbing it in that even a phpBB novice at the time can apply the patches. Anyway at least it's back up so we can all absorb the knowledge in SED's wonderful posts and continue to read the saga about the mythical phpBB patches that never seem to get installed. I'm so looking forward to seeing more Russian ads for cheap big pharma meds, zoo porn, etc. The way this board's deteriorated the only thing left is an invasion by the Burning Man is a Cult people to make it all complete.

I lost eplaya in every way at 9:45 am cst and just got back on but can't tell if it will last.
Is this happening to anyone else?
I never had real problems until ticket day, but don't see how that would have anything to do with it.
I'm told a modem glitch could cause it, but it is weird to not seem to affect other sites.
Mostly I can access burningman.com but not eplaya when it happens.
Maybe it is a virus I can't find.
Some people have had this problem too.
But if it isn't widespread, can't be the site.
Could the spam and hack attempts have a part?

I couldn't get into Eplaya for most of yesterday either, from two computers. That doesn't explain the problems you were having on the other days, though.
What exactly does your browser say when it fails?
Next time it fails, while it's failing, click Start, then Run.
Enter "cmd" without the quotes and click OK.
In the command window type "ping eplaya.burningman.org" without the quotes and hit enter. What does it say?
The above should at least tell us at what point it's failing.

No such website.
Looks like a spyware hacked your browser to me if that's what you get.
Any idea why the problem is intermittent and seems only to affect eplaya?
Would erasing the browser and reloading clear it?
I couldn't get int explorer to work and got firefox because of that problem.
Could I have an internal glitch?
I have defragged and run full error correction and used the antivirus I currently have.

I'm still having some problems off and on today.
Yesterday I got a server not found message.
Today I get the website does not exist thing.
I don't know what that means.
Have you had any trouble otherwise, Antim?
It all started on ticket day, which I presume is coincidence.
Maybe something glitched that day with all the activity.
Other people have reported problems, but it doesn't seem to be going wide.

If you're getting forwarded to that earthlink page your connection is probably fine - seems like a DNS error. Basically, your computer asks Earthlink's DNS server where to find eplaya.burningman.org. It's not able to do this, so it tells you the site can't be found. Try contacting Earthlink to see if they can help you.

note so i wont forget:
after reports of certain functions not working like showing lasts posts, buddy lists, and other index based functions someone once posted a phpbb bug that had to to with access in mysql. i think the fix was a script that ran against the db to check the relation links in index tables, not sure, but spanky ran it occasionally and it seemed to work.
would probably help to make it a cron job or something.

Hats off to you SB.
It would be nice if more thinking were to be given in this area.
I know that most hate MS but MySQL, though great on many diffrent levels, is a lot to maintain in comparison to IIS. Especially as large of a scale as BM is and as offten as changes are needed to be changed swiftly.
PHPBBS runs on both.
More secure on one that on another depending on the IT/software engineering skills one has.
This is only my opinion, which most beg to differ.

yeah, but its always going to be limited to whats provided by the org. since the eplaya has been in a long period of not much being done i hope people wont have unfair expectations - its going to take time to get things moving.
i'm more optimistic, but cautious. some non-technical problems still exist.
