Mail not delivered to BRC?

Hello Burning People,
I tried to send a package to the playa and the person never received it - and neither did the registered camp the person was at. I heard there were not enough volunteers to deliver the mail. What happened to the undelivered packages? Were they returned to their senders? Given to others? Gracias!!

I didn't get any utility bills when I was on the playa, and I'm furious!

They probably didn't get the package because they didn't want to do the monkey dance that the post office workers were trying to force them to "gift" in order to get their mail.

Personally, I don't see how making someone degrade themselves for your own amusement to be deemed worthy of your services is a gift. I'll play along in good humor as well as the next guy, but can't you help people out WIHTOUT being an ass about it?

Ran into the same thing trying to get my camera tag. Damnit, I'm exhausted, and I really don't feel like singing you a song right at the moment.

I understand your frustration. When they could'nt find my reservations at the BRC Hotel ,I was pissed . I had to stay in a dusty dome all week long and was forced to eat from a can.
I was able to go shopping at the BRC Boutique(it was no mall, mind you)and did find some lovely fashions to cover my pasty ass. I spent the rest of the week looking for romance and a pool to sun myself. I lost 10lbs., in my search, so the week was'nt a total loss.

The Low Down From your Friendly Postal Worker

First my Qualifications
-------------------------
- I have worked at the Black Rock City Post office for 5 years
- It was MY art project 4 years ago to implement an offical Fedral Postmark for Burningman.
- My longest stint working a post office window was about 15 hours [straight] this includes peeing in a cup so I wouldn't back up the line.

Now on to your questions:

>I tried to send a package to the playa and the person never received it - >and neither did the registered camp the person was at.

1) Since the mail is REAL federal mail we really can't deliver mail to anyone other than the recipient listed on the piece of mail unless it is sent care of the whole theme camp.
2) If no one is there AND there is no mail box we have to attempt re-delivery [believe me some packages were attempted 3 or 4 times]

>What happened to the undelivered packages?
1) If no one claims the package we attempt to return to sender.
2) If there is no return to sender? Well officially the mail we get (comming in) is sent C/O the Black Rock City Post Office. It belongs to us. We SPECIFICALLY don't garuntee delivery for this exact reason.

>I heard there were not enough volunteers to deliver the mail.
Nope we had plenty of folks. But yeah it was hard to find people who wanted to deliver at times when people were likely to be home because those people who wanted to deliver were likely to want to be home at those times as well.

>I didn't get any utility bills when I was on the playa, and I'm furious!
But you did get an eviction notice didn't you? NO? Well get yourself to a registered themecamp with an actual address and a mailbox and quit your whining!

>They probably didn't get the package because they didn't want to do the >monkey dance that the post office workers were trying to force them >to "gift" in order to get their mail.

Actually we are very specific about it being a BRIBE. Unless of course you happen to have your green card that verifies that you are indeed a citizen of black rock city. Wouldn't want those illegals mooching on the great public services of our fair city. Not a citizen? You could apply down at our main office....oh you are a citzen and here's your green card now I just need to see three other forms of ID....

> I'll play along in good humor as well as the next guy
Oh really? We even ask Larry Harvey for three forms of ID. I mean if the man himself can stomach us [ok,ok he did get the greeters to warn newbies about the eviction notices that were sending folks to first camp for replacement] why can't you?

> but can't you help people out WIHTOUT being an ass about it?
I don't know. Can YOU deliver thousands (yes thousands) of pieces of mail in the middle of a fake city in the middle of the desert using an all volunteer staff and recieveing NO FUNDING from the BMORG? Better yet can you hand cancel at LEAST 10,000 pieces of real outgoing mail so that the citizens of Black Rock City can get their DAMN suivenier cancelation or mail their electric bill? Can your themecamp actually provide 24 hour around the clock interaction (I start work at 4am on the playa)?

As for being an ass....well I guess you've never shown up when we have the free late night blowjob line going. Or when we are sending love letters and valientines out. Or when we are working side by side with kids from kidsville in the early morning so their parents can sleep.

Every worker at the BRCPO is a PERFORMER some performances are different than others. I mean wouldn't it be just like the default world if we all had the same fucking uniform and were all fucking polite?

Any time I was going through center camp headed for someplace else, I would check at the post office for mail to be delivered along the way. It is a great way to meet people and I have a blast scolding people for not having mailboxes.

We still have our official eviction notice - and a couple other pieces of mail that were delivered (even after we were evicted - how's THAT for service?) in our official Kamp archives, located in the Apokiliptika Socialistic Federated Warehouse, Tomb, & Gin Joint LLP ™. In fact, we took a certain amount of pride in the fact that we were evicted, but since the world was ending anyway, we figured no one would mind...

My only regret was I was so dam busy I didn't get to the PO to get my green card. Damn. I just hope that y'all are there next year...

Believe me, you guys ROCK our world. This from a multi-time civil Servant on at least 3 dimensions (we're everywhere... like Cockroaches)...

Thank you for "going postal"... so when do we get our own ZIP+4 code for our Kamp??

Zip Codes

We already have implemented ZIP coding. The playa is divided into several zones(I think 16) into which the mail is sorted. Ask down at the main office next year what zone you are in.

BRCPO 2006, I doubt it!

I don't think so!

When will we get our own zip+4 ? Yo Camp Apopoliptika - when someone there does a decent pole dance for me? I came by to make sure you got your big envelope, and you did, then did a pole dance in lingerie for all of you weirdos - dressed in a white, silk teddy covered with red hearts.

What did I get for my trouble? Friendship? I was not beaten to a pulp by all of you monsters.

You get your Zip+4 when you fucking create one! Get busy!

You're all fired!

I've come here with some mail gone astray...

On burn night, a friend of mine was handed some mail to deliver, by a weary BRC post office delivery fellow who could not find the addressees. We really meant to get it delivered! We did! Burn night came, as it always does, and the mail went by the wayside. Well, not litterally. I just found it in my daypack, which I should have unpacked months ago, but that's another story. Anyhow, I have two pieces of mail here.

This mail is addressed to:

World Domination Headquarters
9:00 & Esplanade

and

Hell's Poodles/ The Produce Aisle
Bipolar & 9:00

This mail has no default world stamps or anything like that, it's good old playa mail. If you know to whom it should be forwarded, please to let me know!

I've received mail on the playa over the course of several years now, and have nothing but love and worhipful feelings for the postal workers. I've had mail get to me at BRC from Arizona, Michigan and Santa Cruz, and all I've sent has found its way to the addressee. I hope I can find the addressees of this wayward mail today.
