New Burner From Australia

Post by Hugh Jorgasm » Mon Feb 08, 2016 6:50 pm

Hey everyone, me and my mates are another group of BM virgins. Basically wanted to know how hard is it to get ourselves Burning Man tickets? We are keen as to go and are basing are whole trip around this festival. We are not sure if we should just fork out the $1400 aus for pre-sale or just wait for the main sale.

Regards

Welcome to ePlaya.
Are you certain that tickets should be your most basic concern?
In your first post on the forum you say nothing about the art you plan to share with the Black Rock City community, your intentions for contributing in other ways, or your understanding of Burning Man values. Or even what you have learned so far by reading the ticketing information on the main website.
Burning Man is not for everyone. Burning Man is not something you just up and go to, to see what it looks like. Burning Man involves research to determine whether this is for you at all, and then a commitment to the ethos and to the Ten Principles of Burning Man.
I look forward to reading your further thoughts.

Hello and welcome! It's difficult to say how hard tickets are to come by, since that depends on a bunch of different factors that all can vary from year to year and we don't really know about til after the fact. The event first sold out in 2011, and has sold out every year since. Rather than have a ticketing discussion here I'll point you towards the Tickets Discussion board to find out more info and raise questions about that aspect of the event.

Looking at the bigger picture of the event, I'd say +1 to what Agaton said. For a lot of folks who wouldn't be traveling from anywhere near as far as you, getting tickets isn't the biggest challenge. If you haven't taken a look at the Survival Guide or First Timer's Guide (links are in my signature), you may want to read through that and see just what you all will be getting yourself into.

In the meantime, tell us about yourself and your mates? Are you just looking for an exotic festival getaway, are you planning on building or making something for the event, or something else?

Welcome Huge, Great name by the way. Getting tickets is a crap shoot. I missed out on every try last year and got a ticket from my friends. Make everyone in your group get involved with the process. That gives you better odds. Read as much as you can. About everything.

I admire people that make it to the burn from far away places. It's a giant effort even when you live just a couple hundred miles away. Bringing or building art your first year is not something I would recommend. Bring your happy selves to the playa and make your gift a helping hand. Everywhere you look there are people that need something. Help with a shade structure, a blown bike tire, carry their ice or a multitude of volunteer jobs. In centercamp there is a desk where you can find out who needs help.

Eplaya is a wonderful place to search for info and help. Let us get to know you and we'll hug you in person later.

Hi Hugh, I was in that situation last year. I flew in on as a solo burner from Melbourne but initially missed out on the sale and was devastated to say the least. It really sucks not knowing if you will get a ticket or not but honestly even if you do miss out in the direct sale id just plan your trip like youre going anyway and just keep on the search everyday. Just be aware you probably wont start seeing tickets appear until July and theres no way you can wait that long before planning your trip. It was almost August before I got one off another Burner on here. Perseverance pays off!

Hey Crease. I'm surprised to see you back. (Not really). Where you been for the last 6 months? Once you got a ticket from the ePlaya community you evaporated into the either. Good luck in the ticket sales this year. We're all biting our nails. I missed you at the M&G. Maybe this year eh?
