Virgin Burner from Nebraska

Post by thejason » Tue Feb 09, 2016 1:57 pm

Hello there! My name is Jason. I'm 30-ish, adventurous, gay, sometimes a little dorky and I live in Omaha, Nebraska.

I’ve heard of the Burning Man festival for many years but never took the time to investigate what it was about. Last year, I created a profile on the Couch Surfers website and offered to host travelers passing through the Omaha area. One of the first random people to respond to my profile happened to be a veteran burner. When we met up we spent hours talking about ourselves before the topic of Burning Man came up and once it did, my curiosity began to grow immensely. With every question I asked and every story he told, a sense of wonder and excitement washed over me. As we parted ways the next day, he had a lot of miles left to travel while I exploded Google, Twitter and YouTube with searches of Burning Man. Every article, picture, tweet and video that I took in, only solidified my desire to attend the next Burning Man event!

After several months of keeping my new found love of Burning Man to myself, I shared it with two of my best friends who I knew would make the trip a blast to experience it with. Without much effort, they were on board too!

Last month, I took the advice I read online and I met up at a local bar with members from my regional group, Tallgrass Burners.

I’m hopeful my buddies and I will score tickets on 3/23 but I’m also crafty and resourceful enough that I’m not worried about it. I’m so excited for Burning Man this year that I’ll do everything in power to make sure I’m there!

My excitement is what drove me to make this post and I love meeting new people so say hello! :P

Hello TheJason. Welcome to ePlaya. This is a great place to do endless research and get your questions answered. Especially do your reading about ticketing. It can be daunting. You have just over 6 months to prepare so dig in and let us get to know you.

Sure. Why not.
I was on a bus from Reno to Tonapah Nevada to pick up my car that had been stolen in California. On the bus was a Reno Gazette that showed a man scantily clad standing in a dust storm. The story was about this Burning Man thing moving to Nevada. I kinda wanted to see it but....camping in the mountains sounded so much better. A lifetime later I had a co-worker that went every year. I jumped in.

Greetings, TheJason. Welcome to ePlaya.

Sounds like you're already on the right track, having connected with your local Burner group. There is also loads of information here and on the main Burning Man site as well. Soak up all the information you can and ask lots of questions. From my first post on here a couple years ago, I've found everyone to be friendly and generous with sharing information.

There is plenty of plan, and starting early will make it much less stressful and much more enjoyable.

Good luck with the ticket hunt!
