BM Virgin from CO getting ready for 2018

Post by jagcs » Sun Mar 11, 2018 8:36 pm

Just thought I would introduce myself here and start diving into the forums to get myself ready for my first Burn. I've toyed with the idea of Burning Man for a long time, but decided last year that 2018 would be the year. Then the theme was announced, 'I, Robot'. The geek side of me knew that if I was ever fated to go to BM that 2018 would be the year.
I've been reading a lot of material, doing a lot of research and getting my gear together. I have a friend that has been 3 times and she's been very helpful but I wanted to say that if anyone from the Denver area wants to reach out and share their wisdom over a meal or beverage shoot me a message. There can never be too much knowledge. I know that a regional burn Apogaea happens in late May, but I'll actually be out of the country then otherwise I'd sneak away to that.
I hope to see you there!
John

When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle.
Then I realized that the Lord doesn't work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me

Welcome aboard, John!

Getting connected with the local community is a great thing to do. One of the best places to start with is with the resources listed on the Burning Man regional site: https://regionals.burningman.org/region ... ica/denver and https://regionals.burningman.org/region ... ca/boulder

FYI Apogaea is actually June 7-10, not late May, in case that fits better with your travel plans. Like most regionals it is quite a bit different from what you'll experience on playa, but still not a bad starting point if you can make it. There is also "Colorado Burnal Equinox" coming up at the end of this month near Bailey, though I honestly question the wisdom of trying to hold an outdoor camping event up there during March: http://denverburners.org/events/colorad ... l-equinox/

Bobalicious (one of the Burning Man regional reps for Denver) usually hosts a "virgin BBQ" toward the beginning of August. It's also a good way to get to know people and get those last-minute questions answered, though starting that process now is definitely the right thing to do. Also, if you haven't read the survival guide yet, please do so - it's important.

I'm also happy to try to meet up sometime, though I'm about an hour north of you, and don't have a ton of time in my schedule to make it down to Denver.
