I officially became a Burner

Post by Bamba » Thu Oct 22, 2026 7:30 am

Hi everyone, my playa name is Bamba.

This year, 2026, I officially became a Burner. Honestly, I’ve been a Burner at heart for my entire adult life, but at 37, I finally made it happen and stepped foot on the dust.

I came into the Burn with so many expectations, ambitions, and a massive list of things I wanted to see and do—most of which didn’t end up happening. But man, my Burn was absolutely insane! I can truly say I accomplished nothing and everything all at once.

Sure, it was tough. The weather threw some serious challenges at us with heavy dust storms and even rain, but it didn't take away from my experience—not even a single bit.

We arrived on the first day after a 12-hour drive at 8:00 AM. By the time we actually cleared Gate and made it in, it was almost 3:00 PM. We set up our camp at 3:30 & H, and around 6:00 PM, the moment I had been waiting for finally arrived—I stepped onto the Playa for the very first time. Pure, unadulterated joy mixed with total awe. Was I on the Moon? Was I on Mars?

We biked for about a minute, and there he was. I met The Man for the first time. After all these years of dreaming about this moment, I was finally standing right beneath him. He was massive, built with a level of detail that words simply can’t describe. Of course, we stood there taking photos with him and all the incredible art installations—total tourist vibes, but hey, you only get that feeling once! Like a veteran Burner told me out there: “There’s nothing quite like being a Virgin.”

As night fell, still utterly clueless about what was happening around me, we headed out for our second trip onto the Playa, venturing into the Deep Playa for the first time. It was an overwhelming experience that words just can't capture—the endless lights, the music, the pure, uninhibited happiness everywhere. And, of course, that creeping thought: "How on earth do I find my way back to camp now? I don't recognize a single thing!" We danced at some of the most beautiful stages I’ve ever seen in my life, surrounded by the most beautiful people I’ve ever met. On the way back, we naturally got lost, which turned out to be a whole adventure in itself.

As the week went on, I slowly got used to the dust and the mud. I learned how to find my way back, danced my heart out, joined different camps, met incredible human beings, and most importantly—fulfilled a lifelong dream. (Now, my new dream is simply to go back).

If I can offer just one piece of advice to new Burners: Don't plan a single thing! Just come to feel the endless freedom of the Playa. Experience the Burn the way the Burn wants you to experience it, not the way you think you should.

Hoping to make it back to the Playa soon and see the absolute best community in the world once again!

Welcome Home,Bamba
