8) I'm planning to come to burning man's 2010 event. I may not make it until 2011 :? because it's always a little difficult when your planning the trip from across the atlantic ocean. :!:
Just hoping to make some friends, get some information - such as the theme camps and the ride sharing sites. So any information would be helpful.
Also my biggest question is....There is no use of money in BRC? I keep reading about this gift giving. I'm pretty handy at lending a hand but with 48,000 others walking around this gift thing sounds like something i need to spend some time on.

Don't get too worried about the gifting thing. Those on their first year are sorta given a pass. If you just are handy when people need it, that's plenty. Otherwise, hand out, soak in.

It was our first burn, and we had brought a few large fake flowers to decorate our rv..... one morning we woke up and saw that someone had tucked a little "extra" flower in the middle of ours.
All the giving that we encountered that week was really great, but that one was the best gift of all.

gifting was great
We were not sure what to gift so we brough lots of MG beads. Then we found that we could sit in our shade next to the road and whenver anyone walked by we would say hi and ask if they wanted some ice water or a beer. This was great. We met so many cool people and it also gave us a chance to share stories, drink and friendship. Gifting is just giving of yourself! Best gift you can give in the middle of a desert with 40k people. Just enjoy!

welcome to eplaya;
Sometimes the gift comes about from the theme camp that you belong to. All theme camps put a lot of work into what they are giving to the city so your gift is the time and effort you give to creating that gift.
For example, I spend several hours each day working on the newspaper and the people in that camp are like my family. And the city is a better place because it has a newspaper, in my opinion.
If you camp solo, you'll still find a way to give back either to your neighbourhood or the folks you meet. The best gift I remember getting was a musician playing at the porta-potties near our camp. It was hilarious and wonderful at the same time.
And if you read the burning man site you'll see that each person is asked to Leave No Trace at their own camp but also to give two hours to cleaning up in the city. We've been talking elsewhere on this board about the cleanup jobs that are needed at the two big dance camps - Opulent Temple and Root Society - they could always use a hand, just drop in and say you're ready to help out. You'll meet fantastic people and they will shower you with playa love.
You are the gift.
