I'm new to it all. Fresh off the boat. Green behind the ears
Hello all. I woke up and decided I need to go to Burning Man. That was about a week ago. I got a ticket. I know nothing else other than I want to participate.
I'm looking for a group to work on a project with.
I hail from Tucson, AZ.
Peace.

I know how you fill illy, I did the same thing!
Welcome, welcome! Nice to see another Birgin around... I have my e-mail confirmation to pick up my will-call ticket.. and thats about it too! I'm starting to slowly build my camping collection.
Also, don't forget to check out regional burns in your area - to experience a bit of the playa before you even go!

Thank you all for your responses. I've been talking to everyone I know and getting some good replies from people on social network sites. I know I have my homework cut out for me, and I'm stoked.
And anyone from Tucson or the surrounding area, I'd like to connect - if not for anything than that we'll have made a connection :D

Welcome roundthingsroll, I'm also a noob. This online community (and the Tribe) have both been invaluable resources for my preparations. Not only are the experienced folks here generous with their tips and time, they're incredibly patient. You're in good company, start taking notes!

Seems to me if you have a license to drive, you have insurance, and you're not doing anything to draw their attention, you have nothing to worry about. I bet the people who howl the most about the fascists patrolling the perimeter of Burning Man are the ones trying to sneak in without tickets.EmilyD wrote:Yah no shit Shambala, the AZ Gov is really rolling out the welcome mat...for white people. ;-(Shambala wrote:Pull over, I need to see your Green Card!roundthingsroll wrote:I hail from Tucson, AZ.
How come you never hear the Vietnamese or Russian immigrants howling about their rights being trampled? Whenever I go to Canada, I've had to let some asshole rifle through my car, show my ID and actual MONEY, answer a bunch of questions while they "decide whether they're going to let me into the country," and the same on the way home. So fuck 'em. If my tags are expired, I don't have a license, can't prove I have insurance, don't speak English and can't tell you the first thing about citizenship, make sure I'm not some illegal from Amsterdam if that's what it takes. Just make it fair, and don't shoot me for failure to comply. (Because that's where the Nazi/Soviet analogy fails.)
It's racist to suggest that people who believe in LEGAL immigration are white people. My stepfather's entire family "disappeared" from Latvia when the Soviets wanted their land, and the survivors had to apply for political asylum and get legal citizenship in the US. They didn't speak English but as soon as they got here, they started the process. They're more Cossack than white, but, they respected our way of life enough to participate legally. In fact, our community is awash in Russians and Ukrainians now, but the only people you hear hollering about immigration policy are people from Central America.

This country has an ugly history of xenophobic immigration policy. At that very time Emma Lazarus was writing that "golden door" poem for the Copper Lady's pedestal, they were closing the open door against jews, and russians, and polacks, and italians, and other undesirables. Chinese were the best crews at building the railroad from the Pacific Ocean to the golden spike, worked harder and had dietary habits that kept them healthier than the whites, but they still were not allowed to bring wives and children; the anti-"anchor baby" phenomena is not new. And then there was that dreadful incident of the ship of german jews in the late thirties. Couldn't get in and many died in the camps. If you're a political refugee at this point in time you're better off going to Canada for asylum. But we pat our backs because we have "freedom."
Just because the Mexicans are taking the brunt of it in public right now, doesn't mean that they are the only ones treated unfairly, and that they are the only ones who have complained. It just means you're generalizing from two examples, one of them thoroughly distorted by the media.

I don't think it matters. People who crash the gate probably have all kinds of great excuses about why they shouldn't have to buy a ticket.theCryptofishist wrote: Just because the Mexicans are taking the brunt of it in public right now, doesn't mean that they are the only ones treated unfairly, and that they are the only ones who have complained.
If the Mexicans aren't the only ones being treated unfairly, who else is, and, who is treating them as such? Muslims, maybe. The government trained people my age to fear and kill Russians, and now they're all over east Portland, so, I know they're not having trouble getting citizenship. In Arizona it comes down to little brown people from Central and South America, or as Americans call them collectively, "Mexicans."
The thing is, it doesn't matter if you're Chief Joseph or Crazy Horse... at some point you're not racist if you say that the white people from the east are taking advantage of you.
According to the AP, only 47% of American households pay federal taxes.
Imagine if only 47% of Black Rock City paid for their tickets.
