Hello from Vienna, Austria ..

Post by Pot van Herb » Mon Feb 06, 2012 5:13 am

Hi everyone..
I'm a burner from europe, and me and my fellow burner friends are in the progress of planning our camp for this year. With the current ticket situation it isnt the easiest task but we have to start otherwise we wont get it done.

I hope to find good tips and tricks form other burners here, who deal with planning from europe or other places around the world.

See you on the playa..

Welcome.
Savannah: I don't know what it is, but no thread here escapes alive. You'll get 1 or 2 real answers at minimum, occasionally 10 or 12, and then we flog it until it's unrecognizable and you can't get your deposit back.

MisaBlue is from the Czech Republic, and graidawg is from England. Cheyenne is from Wales (confusingly enough). Datara (?) is from the Netherlands and there are several newbs planning to come from there. I don't know if Stefan still goes, but I owe him an un-payable dept. (He has his own business in Munchen. Sorry about the lack of umlaut...)
I'd say I love Vienna, but I only stayed in Baden with my aunt and sister for about three days, so I love the idea of Vienna, but my idea of Vienna is all Fledermaus and the Third Man and Schoenbrun and dead Hapsburgs with their organs buried somewhere else.
Of course, that all feeds into Black Rock City...somehow...

Hi Pot van Herb!

I like your signature. :D

I don't see a specific Austrian link under "Regionals" on the main site, but I did spot an All-Europe page and mailing list.

Welcome to the board.

hi again ..
thx for the welcome.

I have seen many camps last year from all around the world, but never got around to ask them where they got the timber and how they organized delivery and such. so thank you for all the names, i will look out for them. Hope you enjoyed Baden, Vienna is the same only bigger :). Funny you said Fledermaus. One of the ideas for this year is to bring an opera singer from the "Staatsoper" in Vienna to the playa, and maybe build a little opera house way out there. If that's not doable (with our budget, and the people we have), we can always just have the sound system. But I will start a thread somewhere else about that.

Thank you for the link to the regionals. I did not know we had them in europe, maybe we can start one in Austria. That would be sweet. Have to dig more into this. This is my first year of really getting involved with all the planning. Sofar we have RVs, some tickets, and the stuff we stored in LA (mainly bikes), which is all we need for the burn i figure. now for the hard part ;)

cheers

edit: forgot .. the sig is from when alice meets the cheshire cat .. i love that part and it fits so perfectly with BRC

Then you know what the oldest rule in the book is...

Yes, I liked what little I saw of Vienna, but as you can see it's so much the cliches rather than the living city. I don't know if you've ever been to Innsbruck, but they have a folk culture museum (I forget what it's called, but it's in the same place as the creche museum, which was fantastic in its own way) that I think could be a nice mother lode of possible burn stuff. The strange costumes for Carnival/Mardi Gras/Fasching, and I have forgotten what else. Not that I understood a lot of it, either...

Yes indeed; that's why I liked it.
