Yeah Brit, Sorry about that. It was a photo of a cat walking untethered in front of about a dozen German Sherpards. Pretty amazing feat, considering the cat show no outward signs of fear as it walked. The picture is no longer at that link and I was not experenced enoughed to know to host the pic myself thereby ensureing it's longevity. Alas the picture can no longer be found.

Hello, greetings and salutations.

My name is Drew and 07 was my first burn.

In my other posts I explained in detail why I went this year, but in short form, my older brother died, we had always talked about going, and that's why I went.

I am 30, married with 2 cats and no plans for children. I am a Fretless Bass Player and a Database Administrator. My wife has a Masters degree in engrish and she works as an office manager.

We are both from Truckee, Ca originally but we are now living in Reno.

Freddie and I are both furry, freaky creative types who struggle to contain our wierdness in our day to day dealings with reality. We are voracious readers and we live to learn.

I happen to be a huge history geek and I tend to ramble on about other subjects such as animals, Aircraft, Video Games, And lines from a million different films, most of which I own.

My Older Brother had been very involved with the Burn, having been on the mayorial council and having help DB build the Temple on a few occasions. He lived life to the hilt, and I wanted to Honor his memory by not being an unprepared Yahoo for my first time.

I feel I succeeded in that, at least. And I followed thru and we took our butts to the Middle of nowhere and camped out with a whole bunch of freaky folks and had a great time mostly.

I was not able to let go as much as I would have liked, and it's my own fault due to my own expectations, but I did learn that lesson.

I also learned that having your own porta-potties is a luxury worth fighting for.

Thank you to all those who welcomed me with open minds and arms, Thank you to the Tittie Bar, and the guy who was fishing for Hippies. Thanks to Camp Chillville for the carrot cake of doom!

Thanks!

Hi all here who are new and thoughs who got to go this year!WELCOME!
It was one hellav a great year by far!
Weather was at its nastiest at times...but ya know, it seemed to make me feel even more empowered over my own destiny, being able to sit in 50 mph full of silt storm with a cocktail in one hand a circle of friends and a laugh so hard bubbling out of me in huge waves.
It was fantastic!

Decomp is slow this year? I guess I shouldve taken multi vit's. to help counter the severe weather?
on the list for 08!
WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!
Names pinemom, but my friends call me "Piney".

Hello,
I am tommygun1004 for now until I recieve a name that fits who I am now. This was my first burn, I think I went about it wrong but I intend to rectify that next year. We stayed up all night and slept away the day, not what my body was used to so it was a rough trip down. I felt like a spectator this year but I hope to be a participent next. I am a fabricator by trade so next year some friends and I are going to attemp an art car. I look forward to meeting some of you on the playa.

It looks like you had the typical virgin playa experience, just remember there is no right or wrong way when it comes to an individual's on-playa experience, it's about going with what works for you. Good luck with the art car and welcome to the eplaya!

I don't know much about Burning Man, and will attend the event in 2008 for the first year.

Single father with 2 boys, writer director for film and TV, I am writing a crazy story right now.

I am creating a female character who goes to Burning Man every year. she is 33.

I'm hoping to learn more about BM, and what the participants hope to get from the experience.

Great to be here :D

Not at all. No matter what you think you know, no matter how much research or reading or tales of the playa you've heard from burners, Burning Man itself is unimaginable. Your imagination is no match for the reality of, say it with me grasshoppers, Boots in the Dust.

Yes, that's true, What AntiM and Cabana says, Lindburg, and Welcome........

I've yet to see anything to describe Burningman to "those that have not been"..........And make any sense to them......

Save your story until after your trip next year...... And go with no expectations........ T'is what I do every year........

Don't worry, I am NOT writing a story about BM, just having a character who goes to BM.

Greetings,
I am still blown away by my first time on the playa!! I loved it ALL!! Can't wait to return and participate even more. Thank you for it.
I am about to retire from 27 years of firefighting, it seems very fitting to begin this year to, instead, light fires and watch them burn for their natural lifetime.

Hey all, I'm Steve and I haven't been to Burning Man yet, but I've had a healthy obsession with it for a year or two now. I figure it was only a matter of time before I register for this board. I'm already brainstorming for my project, and I expect to go next year with just a couple friends. The thing is, as committed as I am to this, I don't think I have the knowhow or resources to make a really awesome project, especially one keeping with the theme. I'm gonna try to make up for it by participating as a bike mechanic maybe, because that's what I've been for two years and I'd imagine someone out there on the playa would be glad to have me around.

Let's see what I can learn from you all through hanging out here.

I wouldn't worry too much about coming up with a project your first year. It's nigh on impossible to get a feel for what would work and what wouldn't until you've been there. Give it a year and get to know what's going on. Volunteering for someone else's project is always a good idea. I know there are a couple of bike repair camps out there. If you got hooked up with them, you could also have some help in getting acclimatized.

Hello. It's nice to be here. I intend to go to burning man before I leave this world, tell you that.

I so badly wanted to go for 2008 but I just got laid off and don't see it happening, at least not this one coming up.

I've been wanting to go for years. I got lots of stuff to become familiar with I see.

I'm here in the Northeast (mid atlantic), looking for work and (mental healh and social service) hope to get all the education and tips and all that to go to burning man someday. Very nice to be here. Looking forward to reading and posting.

Greetings, my name is Drew or Diesis whichever you prefer. I had wanted to go to 2007's Bman but money just wasn’t in the right place at the right time. No use dwelling on what I miss, I plan I going next year to 2008 and await it rather impatiently.

greetings. my playa (and e-playa) name will be Mereth. 2008 will be my virgin year. I know no-one who goes to BM, so any help in the friends department would be very much welcome. I am not currently affiliated with any particular theme camp, group, entity, or organization. Blank slate as far as associations (though Hushville will be my first choice if for some reason far beyond my control, I'm completely unable to hook up with anyone in the next 6 months).
I intially had aspirations to create some rather large (for me) art pieces, but as it's my first year, I'm thinking that would be too ambitious. Instead, I think I'll do some spontaneous volunteering once we get a little closer. I've got some limited set construction experience (ie: I know how to use a jigsaw, nail-gun, cordless drill, sander, but not a router or chainsaw or welder), so if you'd like some help in building, I am available for assitance.
I am anti-drug, vegetarian-with-some-exceptions, non-smoker and married to someone for whom BM would be too... well... too much, so I'll be going solo and temporarily celibate. I, however, am game and having read practically the entire official site and heard all the horror stories, am still determined to go. (just need to get myself used to using a neti pot and everything will be fine  )
Okay, so ten out of ten for style, but minus several million for good thinking, yeah?

Me and my two mates were virgin burners for '07. We kinda liked it... a lot. A LOTTA-lot. What an amazing experience! Yet, I feel we barely scratched the surface of the playa. Leaving room for many return relocations.

For all the '08 virgins, I'll tell you this, we brought way too much of everything, food, water, booze, clothes, amenities, etc... Planning was stressful at times, but required.

One thing you cannot have enough of is lights on your body and bike at night. I witnessed several collisions due to poor lighting, don't be that guy/girl, bring el wire, headlamps, glowies, etc... have fun and get creative!

We were not involved in any theme camps or art pieces, we just walked around with our jaws on the ground soaking up all the goodness, and just being in the moment, meeting people, looking at art, relaxing in the day, weathering the storms (not just the dust storms either), and having a great time.

eplaya is a good way to stay connected to the people we enjoyed being around while at BRC. BM attracts the most interesting people around, love you all!

Cheers!

hey everybody how's it going?I was a virgin in '07 and I'll keep coming back!camped with an established camp, and had the most amazing time of my life!
BRC is off the hook!I look at my life and people alot differently now since I've been back.I felt some of the strongest bonds of community anywhere in BRC and saw some amazing AAAART!
I was floored by the pyrotechnics and lasers!the music -I can't even descibe...the steady rythm of the city that just never ended.the spiritual feeling was overwhelming at times, and so beautiful it felt like unity.
I can't descibe it to friends really, and I kinda don't want to.I will always be burning...
