But I-80 is a better option. That's why the truckers use it so heavily.

I cant even begin to imagine the drive into a place i know nothing about. It will be great. Well google gave me some weird directions to a hotel past brc. Kinda got annoying because it wouldnt let me find what i was looking for and yes it was saying go through the mountains. But the point you made is why Id rather not deal with up/dwn roads. Just a hassle haha.

Im guessing I80 it is lol! I wont follow to closely to truckers...those huge trucks bug me. always think there gana tip over haha.

Im in for a time of my life and I just cant wait. August needs to get here sooner!!

If you type in Burningman as the search, then get directions 'To here' it'll work. Burningman is a point of interest on google earth so it comes up on google maps.

We should party train it out there in August. How many people you going with?

We went with 8 people from CO last year, and met up with 3 more from Cali when we got there.
Its kinda nice camping with a larger group, because you can almost guarantee you'll be prepared. Something you might have forgot, someone else will have remembered.
How many of the people you're going with have been before?

Sorry for the late reply! But which dub step show was it lol?? I went to heyoka on friday...wayyyy tooo packed lol.

But I think about 3 have gone before. We are mainly their ride there and then they are camping while the rest of us have the RV. So it helps out with gas a lot! Im very greatful for that haha.

It was lazer-sword and An-ten-na. It was pretty sweet, not to packed which was nice, but packed enough that it still felt like a party.
I hadn't been to Cervantes in a while, turns out they've remodeled a bit.
Are you renting an RV or does someone own one?

Oh nice , yea cervantes is under new management so a lot is changing but its for the better

We are renting lol, my friend had one but I dont like relying on people just incase something comes up and they cancel. So to be safe we made the rental.

Obviously nothing tooooo fancy, just the regular cheapo camper...pretty sure i wont be in there much anyways. Unless its to eat and change etc haha.

will you be attending the sub.mission datsik show on the 17th in april at cervantes i think? should be fun lol

Yeah an air conditioned space to sleep during the day would be pretty kick ass! Other wise it gets real hot around noon and you automatically wake up, it sucks.

I don't know April is a long time away to try to plan anything. We'll see.

two years ago while stopped on 447 for a couple hours waiting for an accident to be cleared I met the people in the vehicle behind me. They were from Denver. I can't remember their name's or even what camp they were from, but do remember they were from Denver. I think they said they were going to drive as far as Elko, then stop for the day/night. This was about 2 or 3am after the temple burn. I was concerned cause that seemed like a long drive after what you know would've been a long day for them already.

Yeah that could be bad. I woke up Sunday morning and drove tell we got to the other side of Salt Lake City. All I know, is that unless you know you're way around Salt Lake, do not get off the highway tell you're to the other side. They changed up that city so much for the Olympics, that now its super crazy getting back on the correct highway at the correct spot. I think its best not to stop in the middle of Salt Lake. Coming down I80 into Salt Lake, from Denver, going through Salt Lake and making sure you stay on I80 is the hairiest part of the drive, other than that its a pretty mellow drive.

Coming back after '08, we had to get diesel and made the mistake of passing up the Flying J on the west side of the city and so figured we hope off I-80 at a station closer to the city. Oh boy, was that a mess. And this with a full size truck pulling 16 foot enclosed trailer. Yikes.

A lot of the I-80 construction is complete, especially the really bad stuff at the foot on the mountains. Fuel up in Evanston, WY or west of SLC at Lakepoint (exit 99 I think).

Coming down the canyons, take it easy and take your foot OFF the gas. The interstate takes a wide sweep at the junction in Echo Canyon and tractor-trailers tip there often. If you're loaded, it will get hairy. Same thing as you get past Park City and start downhill, it looks flat and easy, but those long turns downhill will throw you quicker than you think. Be careful. The semis headed west can't brake easily on the downhill, give them room to roll.

SLC is actually a hot spot of liberals in a sea of conservatives, unless you wander onto Temple Square. At least we don't have club memberships for bars anymore. Yes, you can walk right in and get a drink now. There's mumblings of doing away with the state package stores too. Privatized liquor can't be too far off!

AntiM thanks for the info. I've only driven it once, my self. Compared to I70 through the mountains, I80 is way easier. Are you in SLC? or one of the suburbs? The company I work for did the AV and Teledata for the ReAL soccer stadium.

Chat Noir, where are you coming from? Might it be possible to tie in somewhere around Cheyenne and caravan out there?

Coming from Louisville, Ky. We usually head west on 70 to Denver and then north to pick up 80. Denver is almost always a stopover for us, actually. Most years we go to the awesome Farmers Market on Saturday morning and then hit the road. May or may not do that this year. Getting onto 80 west in Wyoming is where I really begin to love the drive.

Went through Nebraska in 08. I like the Denver route better.

I am up north, in Ogden. Very near the I-84 and I-15 junction. Ogden is an old railroad town, and still has the rep of being the original black sheep town.

Yeah I can hear that. I just wondered if you'd heard of them. Apartments are a Dime a dozen, and unless you or a close friend/family member has lived in a particular complex chances are you'll never know it even exists.

The heat is not _that_ bad, it might feel like its on the Sun, but at least its a dry heat :)

Don't take anything that you cannot afford to lose! Leave your expectations at the gate. If it gets to be too much, a good cry and hug will cure ya.

I agree, one should just experience their first burn. You will stumble on to something that you _must_ contribute to. It took a couple of burns to find my true zone.

Bring dust proof goggles and some sort of face mask for the dust. Read the guides, ask questions, try and connect with some burners from your region for their amazing advice.

It is an experience that cannot truly be described!!

I take a few boxes of granola bars, 9 gallons of water, booze, crackers, peanut butter, salty snacks, booze & canned food. Nothing is better than going into my 50Â°C tent and getting out that pre-warmed can of ravioli... Just open and eat. In the heat of the day you won't want to put much effort into food preparation.

Be sure to learn all your camping gear before getting on the playa!!! Test everything, so you don't have any surprises... (Like when I set up my new, untested shade structure for the 08 burn and it fell to pieces ... 9 days without my own shade, really, really, really sucked

)
