My name is Melodie and I am new to ePlaya! Burning Man 2011 was my first time and I cannot wait to go back Home in 2012; maybe I will even see some of you there! Who knows, right?

As a 2012 Burgin, I would not correctly have the Answer. I hope by the end of next Year's Burn I will have perhaps, a smallish idea or at least, be well on my way towards the Answer for future Burns to come.: )Dr. Pyro wrote:Which begs the question: What does the playa have to do with reality?

Re: Hello and Welcome... What's your name? Tell me about You
hi! i'm pandorra, aka pani ... been lurking on these boards for a few years and decided it was time to pop my head up and say "hi!". i'm a long-time burner -- 1996 was my first year with a few off-and-on since then, 2011 was my 8th burn.
i have done lots of creative projects for the playa through the years ... including costuming, theme camps, an art car, and large-scale interactive art. it's all great fun, and look forward to creating even more fun stuff in 2012! i'll try to add my 2¢ where i can. i love helping people out with creative challenges.
anyhoo, good to meet you all!

Okay, pani, I'm always curious about the lurkers who finally come out into membership. What held you back? What spurred you to join? Are we too hard on people?

Re: Hello and Welcome... What's your name? Tell me about You
Hi All,
My name is Jaybob. My first and only Burning Man was in 2009 with my older brother. We roamed the playa nonstop for what seemed like days, meeting so many great people. I took a lot of advice from here and spent my week soaking it all in, being open, and welcoming serendipity!
Since that Exodus (and most every waking moment since) I've been planning my return and 2012 IS IT!
So here's my plan:
*Do 1 thing every day to prepare for BM. Already got my lists going and working on the shelter/trailer...next is EL lighting!!!!
*Find a way to volunteer/participate this year either before or during, or both! I'd like to join a camp, but prefer to be totally self sufficient on food and stuffs. Won't have much $$$ to share but creativity and willingness to help is never in short supply. Need to start early and find a good fit if possible...
*Show my younger Bro the time of his life. This is a tricky one...He will be a virgin this year and will celebrate his 40th birthday on the playa with everyone. I'll just make sure he's prepared and comfortable and leave the rest up to him. He's a very capable partyer and will find just what suits him...I have no worries.
I love this forum and amazing creativity that flows here. Thanks for reading... and see you at home later...

Re: Hello and Welcome... What's your name? Tell me about You
hello everyone. my name is autumn. im from vegas and ive never been to burning man. i just discovered this amazing event while attend Nocturnal 2011 and ever since i googled 'burning man' and few weeks ago, i cannot get it off my mind. the whole mentality of burning man and everything it stands for resignates so well with me. in vegas its hard to find anyone who can relate with the way i want to live and my thoughts and views of the world and i just know the whole burning man community would welcome me. i am so bummed that i missed burning man 2011 but now all i can think about is burning man 2012, i have even been dreaming about it. ive spent countless hours reading blogs and looking at pictures and watching videos on the event. everytime i watch a youtube video of the event i get butterflies in my stomach, even now typing this i have butterflies in hopes that i can gain new friends who all share the same BM mentality. im so happy to have found this and i hope to connect with you all

Hey AutumnHolly! Welcome.
You might like to connect with Vegas Burners. They definitely exist.

I'm a crusty old burner. Young, eager types can get on my nerves, true. But honest joy is a delight to watch if it's not too much in my face. And other people on the board are softer than I am. So, you'll likely be okay.

"...likely...", heck it will definitely be very much OK!
Welcome aboard Eplaya, Autumn!
Sure sounds like you have caught on to our little community. Just remember that this Eplaya board and the actual Playa in the desert are two very different things.
Yes, we average fairly adult here, but you may be surprised when you get to the Playa next year. I don't remember any numbers, but the average participant age is surprisingly high.
And the wonderful thing about it, of course, is that we all play so well together, without regard to differences like age.

This is true. We don't really find ourselves limited by demographic categories.Elliot wrote:"

Welcome Autumn! I know just how you feel...I caught the bug a few years back and my imagination took off from there.
I found that the journey to prepare for my first time on the playa was an amazing education and a whole lot of fun. The info and people on this forum are a great help and a big inspiration!
Good luck!

I should hope you wouldn't be pre-judged at all, and that any judging that goes on is based on your actions. I've seen plenty of people of all ages on the playa, everybody has the same potential for awesomeness.
