spectabillis,

Yes, we love ya.

Glad to hear your weapon of choice is spray paint, hopefully the non-permanent kind. I've always found it easier going up those tall ladders with as little weight as possible.

Anti M here, more commonly maggiemayday or just plain margaret. Anti M = Auntie Em, a family in-joke. Curently a homemaker or chronically unemployed teacher, take your pick. Ex-navy, from a navy family, californian born, lived overseas in Iran and Japan and Diego Garcia, married for 17 years, oh I think I'm 47, but I keep forgetting. My larry makes tent camping comfy, and as the biggest boy scout on any planet, is my ultimate playa survival tool. He even acquired adequate pedal transport for me when bike riding became a painful impossibility.

I'm fairly new to eplaya this year. 2004 will be my fourth burn, but somehow I always feel like a newbie. Too many expectations likely. That's been my biggest goal since 2001, just relax. Strike out on my own a bit more, stay up all night at least once, quit telling the newer newbies what to do, (unless it involves absentmindedly leaving our tent open in a dust storm). Take more pictures, be less weighted down with a camera. No wonder I'm so confused. More art, different art, simpler art, bigger art! I have a cool new scar this year, I'm hoping it can be art too.

A group of 3 ~ 8 of us, primarily from Utah, camp together in a larger theme camp, although we now have enough super-structure we could camp independently. The burn and the art are fantastic, but the people are the best. Even the grouches like me. I like to make handmade trinkets or pendants and randomly gift them, especially to the touristy looking folks who are standing around looking stunned. Larry likes to light up people, so hands out glowsticks to "dark" folks at night. hey, they're bio-degradable after all. the glowsticks, although I suspect the people are too.

I'm not good on message boards or chats, I either come off as too flaky or too strident, heh. I talk too much. Hmmm, seems like I can be like that in person too.

Hope everyone who wants to make it to the playa this year gets there and has a most excellent burn! Most pleased to make everyone's acquaintance. Here's to happy trails criss-crossing in the dust.

Hi! I am one of the many "Brians" in the USA, maybe even the world. I haven't been to Burning Man yet, but some of my group of friends have decided that we will try for 2005. I don't know if I will be able to afford it, unfortunately, since I am currently losing money every month...-- at age 40 I have as yet to find something I am good at that I can get hired for, much less earn a decent living at! :(

Darn it all! I'd like to build an airship for Burning Man! Anyone know of any really huge buildings in the Madison, WI area I could use for free? The same goes for helium and materials....

The howdy post, and all that good stuff

Post by mizducky » Sun Apr 18, 2004 11:01 pm

(dang, once I figure out which post I'm replying to ... chalk one up to operator error.)

Uh, hi. If it isn't obvious, I'm new. I go by mizducky, or you can call me Ellen, whichever you like. I'm told I'm a pretty fun person in a pleasantly wacko way. Enough of y'all seem likewise to me that I'm sure we'll have a real fun time. I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to work out all the logistical weirdnesses to get my ass to Burning Man this year, but I'm gonna try my damnedest. Anyway, please to meet y'all, looking forward to hanging out.

You seem quiet and demure, But I'm willing to bet, that deep down inside you're really Mae West.

hehehehe -- the Mae West-itude sounds as if "somebody" was checking out my website.

Hey! Every now and then Popular Mechanics runs its articles proclaiming that airships are coming back! I just want to get in on the ground floor! (Besides, I think that it would be neat to build a pedal powered airship, which is what I had in mind. Kind of like the pedal powered airplane you can buy plans for, but would take less effort to get off the ground and to fly....)

How about a One-Man Airship that is filled with helium and is bike powered by a midget?

I was looking through my journal of 2003 last night and I remembered a woman from Camp Renault walking up to me and offering me a perfect bowl of hot food, just when I needed it most. It would be a beautiful gift. As for your other questions, well that's just up to you!

PS you might want to put up a sign that says "Hot Soup" or something instead of walking back and forth between the ladle and the street.

Hi,
I'm Charity.
This year will be my first burn.
A few years ago I had intended to come, bought a ticket and made plans and everything. About 2 months before the event, plans changed. On the night of the burn I had a bonfire with some friends. We took several moments of silence and burned a giant wooden triangle and a weird "furries" adult coloring book. Bonfire turned out to be a fetishist, and it greedily consumed the coloring book, page by page, showcasing the lingerie-clad animated lesbian kitties in erie light before sending them into the sky as mini flaming flying carpets.
I'm a culinary student in Calgary, Canada. I like stuff.

Hola! My name is Samantha... I'm 22 years old this year will be my first burn. I was born in Mexico, raised in San Antonio and currently attend Med. School in Ohio. I heard about this place when I came to burningman.com find the answers to questions I had about what to bring and so on. I have been coming to the site for quite awhile and just recently desided to join. Everyone seems so nice and friendly here.. I hope that's a strong indication of what to expect at Burning Man!

<speaking from a virgin-burner's point of view> I think it will be an indication... This board is so much different than any other place/message board/chat online. Everytime I read something here it gets me more and more excited. I can't wait. See you all out there...

I'm sparkletarte. I'm in BC, Canada. I've never been to burning man although like everyone else "I've heard about it for years and hope to go this year".

I really love the party away from the rest of the world setup. I go to an annual party near where I live called Shambhala. It's 3-4 days long, lots of interesting freaky people, on a 500 acre ranch. Once you're in, you don't leave until you leave. I love getting away and being in the trees, hanging out with friends, meeting people, and staying up all night. It's similar to a rave, but definitely different, a very open and positive vibe. Shambhala is normally two weeks before BM, but this year it's a week early, so I'm hoping that gives me enough time to get organized for BM. There's a fair number of Shambhala folks that go to BM. On another thread I read about someone seeing Lorin at BM- we get him every year too, and this year we'll have Adam Freeland and Freq Nasty as well.[/url]

I have a catmonster named Mingus and two ferrets, Ooter and Toby, and a boyfriend named Kevin who bought me tickets to the burn this year so it'll be my second and his first. My camp is Happy Buddah Karma Surplus. Rudy Jones is an excellent cook.
