Newbie from NY looking for their first burn.
Hi Everyone,
I've been doing my homework and have decided to stop sitting on the fence and make 2020 my first burn.. I've been on a bit of a personal journey of self-improvement and enlightenment, and I've been trying to forge new connections with people (including and especially new people) and to the world around me.
As it stands now I have one friend who may join me, though that could change as we get closer. Hopefully I'll find a camp to join, but I know I still have miles to go before I can say that I'm "ready".
Anyway, I'm looking forward to this more than I've looked forward to a lot of things.

Hola and hello...
It’s good to start declaring and planning early. Find your regionals and start going to meet ups, etc. think about what skills you may be able to offer to a camp, look at past camps and see what might be a good fit. Good luck and see ya in the dust

Hey there, welcome to ePlaya!
Be sure to stop by the ePlaya Meet-n-Greet on Wednesday at 6:00PM and meet all of the ePlayans you may have befriended here. Further details on this year's location will be posted as it gets closer to the burn.

Then I realized that the Lord doesn't work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me

Welcome - the event has many first time burners each year and we want them to be prepared, have a fine experience, and return as veterans.
As others have mentioned, your regional, packing lists, planning, and Q&A on ePlaya.

welcome! start packing . literally. set aside some things you plan to take to burning man. physically set them aside. then start to think about how you are getting there.
Re: Newbie from NY looking for their first burn.
welcome! I'm also a newbie from New York, hailing from Long Island. I'll be driving out there next year in my cruze. See you in the dust!
Re: Newbie from NY looking for their first burn.
Thanks everyone! I went to a NYC regional happy hour back in October to start meeting some folks and hope to hit another one this month.
Good advice on starting packing some stuff now, I'll see if I can find some things that I can start putting aside ASAP.

If at all possible, was hoping to meet up with local burners in the area if I could
Re: Newbie from NY looking for their first burn.
Look up your states and neighboring states, neophytes! Connect with locals and barely locals!
I have traveled to Burning Man numerous times by taking a train to the next state. One of those occasions was a one-off (lovely soul, I hope he's doing great out there) and 4 times with someone I'm still lucky enough to be in touch with (Hello, Motsky!)
So get creative with your rideshares, and ticket networking. Rideshares you've met at least once or twice are safer, and no Burner prefers to sell a spare ticket to a stranger. Get connected. Participate in advance.

Hi there! I/m also from New Yourk and I also hope that I can visit Burning Man this year. But I'm also searching for a company right now)
Re: Newbie from NY looking for their first burn.
Where in NY are you? I'm in the 'burbs north of NYC.
edit: I see you said you were in LI. If you're looking to connect with folks, you could try checking out some of the burner Happy Hours that are held weekly in NYC?
I plan to get back to one starting in a few weeks.

I don't know how much camping experience you have but it probably wouldn't be a bad idea to go camping for a weekend or two. If you've never camped before, these practice trips will help a lot. If you have camped before, this will be a good shakedown for your gear.
Aside from all the other stuff Burning Man is, it also is, at it's core, just a week long camping trip in a harsh environment.
