Welcome Home Vampira!!
Try to arrive at night if you can. Especially if you are a nightowl. You'll ever forget the imagry. There's nothing like seeing those lights for the first time, glowing way out there in the playa dust.
Gives me chills just hinking about it.

When I went my first year, the event was held slightly more south on the playa than it has been the past few years. When you were approaching the train track crossing on the edge of Gerlach, you could still look way up the playa to your right and catch a glimpse of the blue neon of The Man glowing out there.
Love it…

I hear ya LCN...I love the last little 45 minute stretch up the road to the event. Turn at the (Loves?) gas station to head straight up the little two-lane highway. Buddies are excited, gleaming. My mind, heart (and blood racing from a thermos plus whatever coff' have gotten at the truckstops) starts to p u l s e...memories fade back in...time begins to alternate-shift... ...(1950's tune slowly fades upLeChatNoir wrote:When I went my first year, the event was held slightly more south on the playa than it has been the past few years. Hello Burners :D
Hi guys, I'm Jenny, and I'm heading back to the playa for round two this year :) I've wanted to go for a very long time but I was never on this continent at the right time! But last year I made it a point (and missed the first two weeks of the semester at school) that no matter what, I would make it and FINALLY I did. And now, well, I think I'm fostering an addiction to all things playa and plan on returning for many years to come :)

I arrived just before dawn my first year (04) and it is one of my most mind blowing memories. As I hit the Y where you can really see the playa open up I started chuckling at this fantastic city that was all ablaze and built to be experienced. I noticed right off the bat that BRC is a different color than any other city. That morning it was an eruption of all colors and not yellow amber like defaultia. BRC really comes alive at night.
Do drive carefully though. Know your limits and don't dodge the jackrabbits but do dodge cows.

My name is Fuze.
i was raised in a great hidden world i knew of nuthing outside of my happy little world playing with my toys on the sidewalk drinking lemmonaide and being a happy little child.
at 17 i found my first girlfriend and she broke me in good.
my 3 passions in this world are firt Hookah and all things arabic or from the midle east region. my seccond is music i was raised listening to techno and swing music. now i enjoy all music especialy rare tribal music from remote parts of the world. i have a very eclectic colection of music ranging from all styles and all places. my third is the quest for bringing a greater good to this world. my hole life i have known that this life was given to me so i could help human society in a great way.
i plan to start a hookah company bringing exotic and odd designs of hookah and great herbal tobacco with corosponding effects to the flavor and the emotion of the smoke. with the revinues from this buisness i would like to suport many non profit organizations and world aide.
i beleave that by always aiming twice as high as posible but expecting half the posible you will always be happy with your acomplishments and always achieve the unthinkable.

Jackrabbits
Jackrabbits are crazy humpers, I think I've hit about a dozen & a half of them on my travels, they just sit there and don't do anything at all, worse than deers with light on them.

I honk at deer and it seems to work well. Then you have to deal with which way they are going to run. So far neither the deer or my vehicle has got messed up. At night if I get one staring me down in the middle of the road I honk and alternate high and low beams while braking vigorously. I'm sure the deer go off thinking WTF! The evolutionary forces continue!

One year riding up that last stretch of road we saw a rolling sagebrush that was the size of (and looked as dense) as a shittin' VW Bug!! I started to cringe thinking about hitting a rolling tree or getting stuck on the grill/windsheild

My ticket arrived in the mail on Friday! This is very exciting -- my first time attending -- and also a kick in the ass to start making preparations. I've decided to go solo, which is definitely intimidating (mainly due to an inherent lack of survival skills of any kind) but also liberating and a challenge I am determined to meet.
Newest thought: I'm considering joining the lamplighters as a way to get involved, get some structure and have people to camp with. And I like the idea of providing "illumination."
Anyway, time to start delving into the survival guides and learning how to do really basic things like pitch a tent...
