Denver Noob burning the man in '08

Hi all I am a brand spanking new burningman enthusiast, thought I would drop in and say hi. Naturally been trying to do my homework and make sure to come prepared and in the right frame of mind. The survival guide, these forums and my local burning man community seems to be very valuable for this so I thank you all! Hopefully, I can meet many of you when I go this year!

Actually I did see that event online last night, but won't be able to attend because of prior engagements :-( I'm a UFC fan too and some friends and I are having a BBQ and watching the fight this Saturday. I am definetly looking out for more local get togethers though!

We'll see... We'll see... lol j/k Actually if this wasn't prearranged I would have definetly gone even on short notice. The community of people seem to be an outstanding and very welcoming group which is very encouraging! I almost can't wait for Aug 25th to roll around, just thinking about the ways I could contribute and make myself apart of the community has been very distracting in a good way :-)

So a fun question I have asked and it seems like a lot of people think of different things to point out but what advice would you all give a noob going for the first time?

Survival guide first. The rest will come along. No expectations, except that you will have at least one meltdown. You'll feel weird when you get back. PLaya dust is addictive.

meltdown?... I have read a lot on the forum about experiences people have had and I am hoping the weather related stuff I am good for. While growing up my family moved all over (military brat sort of thing) and I have lived in a genuine desert for a couple years. Experienced dust storms, extreme temperature variations and the like. Or are there meltdowns for other reasons...?

I have a similar background ... military, moves, desert .... most people will have a bad day. Dehydration, sleep deprivation, over-exertion, over-stimulation, emotional swings, almost any reason. I hit the wall around Wednesday or Thursday morning. I nap, eat, drink water, fuck, and then I'm fine. Not in that order. So if you're out there having a blast and suddenly hate the world, don't be disappointed in Burning Man, give yourself a break and a rest.

This is discussed on the burning virgins tribe. Happens more often than people recall; the good times outweigh the bad and not many think to share the negative few hours.
