Camp Rainbow Tazer would like to say hi from the UK

Post by gavmck » Wed Jul 16, 2008 7:13 am

Hello hello,

Thought I'd finally get around to signing up on here so I can ask a few questions at some point before all this BM madness kicks off!

I and a group of chums will be winging our way across the pond to join you bunch of nutcases over at BM for a week of fun and good times.

I've read endless threads on here about preparation, read and re-read the survival guide and we've prepped up loads of gear and supplies to get ready.

So after all that, I still feel MASSIVELY unprepared, which I assume is normal for virgins?

Hah, looking forward to meeting you (maybe).

So if you could do only ONE thing at BM, what would it be?

hugs and death,
Gav and the rest of Camp Rainbow Tazer

The pumper truck guy...

but anyway... Last year I should have stayed longer on top of the Crude Awakening platform. It was rocking around up there in the wind and made me dizzy but it was amazing to see the city at night. So, this year I'm finding something high and climbing up and staying there for a while. The view of the whole city from above (there's less noise up there) is a whole different perspective, with the promise that it will be a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

I thought it was going to be better at night, but it was more amazing in the morning.
I didn't notice any swaying.
Maybe I missed the wind?

It was incredible how small the city was relative to the playa.

As 1/6 of camp rainbow tazer, id also like to introduce myself, hallo.

We have been doing a lot of thinking about the sort of thing we could bring as a gift to the playa. We want to bring something useful rather than complete tat. Has anyone got any examples of gifts they have encountered at previous burns or any suggestions?

Okay. First suggestion: bring nothing. This is your first time out, and you're coming from 1000s of miles (Okay thousands of kilometers too, but we're backwards here) away and don't want to clutter up your suitcases with crap. But on the third hand (hey! I was given it in compensation for my feet!) there's wierd british crap that's unobtanium in america. Booby Bar's resident brit (who cannot come this year) brings us Pims. And does it up properly--I missed it so I don't know what that is. Damn, there was some one pound enamel pins of puffins and badgers and seals and other birds that I bought at a museum gift shop in Upper Mill last year, 30 or 50 of those might do you well. (I don't remember what the charity was that the money was going to, but I think habitat protection was involved. I also just realized that I asked you to spend a.most $100 on gifts. It's really not necessary to go that far out.) Okay, I want all foriegners who come this year to drop by the booby bar with weird shit bought at 2nd hand shops that I can cannibalize for assemblage art. That's my agenda.

Which i think is a long paragraph telling you that i'm selfish and self-involved and that you shouldn't listen to me.

Several Victoriana and Steampunk camps would simply like to talk. Exotic English accents give them gravitas. They would treasure bisquit tins, even if empty, I imagine. Can you prepare a proper tea? Many " uncouth " Americans would be interested. Even a few inexpensive sweets go down well later in the week. Most of all, just have fun!

wicked, loved the idea's! Im sure we could squeeze a bottle of pimms in somewhere, tally ho what what what.

Im sure at somepoint we could charm our way around the playa too wearing pin stripe suits and bowler hats as after all we are gentlemen.

I think tea and cakes are a delightful idea, maybe some kind of tea and cake stand offering cream teas. Oh, oh, OH, PIMS mixed with tea and badgers hahahaha, ok too far, but tea and cake would be great.

we are gonna charm you americans up gooood

Oh my god. Cream teas are a very good way to clog your arteries. I swear, if I'm ever told I have 6 months to live it's off to britain for cream teas (although I won't go for the full english breakfast) then the czech republic for sausage and german torts and I'll just eat myself to death. It's good to have a contingency plan.

They certainly are a heart buster. Only the British could come up with such a stogy, cloggy summer time treat.

So I'm happy we have some good ideas on what we can bring to the playa to share, but i was also wondering if anyone has any little bits of advice for essential personal items? Stuff that is not included in the guide that you personally find useful, or that makes your time more comfortable / enriching?

Oh damn I love bloody marys. I always forget about them though until I have one and then I love them for a bit again, shlurp!

Vinegar + water playa foot killa sounds good. I think I've still got some Glastonbury foot at the moment, so I wonder if I can mix the two and have inter-continental festival foot?

Gyre: Yeah Miss Winehouse sparked out my friend but we put her in a vat of vegetable grease to calm her down... forgot to take her out... oops....

There roller girls? Is that as in roller derby? I've been wanting to see some roller derby for a few months now, it's not so popular out here. Bring it on!

Hmmm, hobnobs, good shout, although maybe just the regular kind rather then chocolicious, i don't know how well they will hold out in our 10000 degree tent.

So, i think we are going to try and bring some cakes with us, any preference on the kind of cakes? lets have a poll.

TomServo, i noticed that you have places left in you theme camp? Do you still have any left as i love to skate and would be interested in helping out?

Maybe i could persuade team UK to come help too if you have enough spaces?

What sort of duties and responsibilities would we have?

We may have reached capacity..but some people flake. Our dues are $75 each..to pay for everything. Duties would include watching the floor, to make sure screws don't pop up...keeping the skates organized..we all do that..or teaching people how to skate. I havent skated in years..but practicing..and running the bar...

Oh yeah!..and picking up random shit around our camp is everyones job.

If were full, were camped at The Wheel@2:15 by center camp..come by and crash! or skate!
