New & going alone.... speak to me!!!

Post by SimplyNutz » Fri Jul 18, 2008 6:52 pm

I have been reading alot and really appreciating all of the advice that I have seen shared. I'm going alone and am pretty clueless...

I'm WAY jazzed and ready to party but definately a little nervous... any additional words of encouragement will be appreciated!

Renee :)

Should I be looking for a tribe before I go????
My dentist said "You need a crown" and I said "I know, right?" Lol

Need a tribe or theme camp? - Nope.

keep it light, camp where you want, thats not already reserved (youll get a map when you get there) and haev a blast.

Pack it in, Pack it out.
Bring less food than you think you will need, bring more water than you think youll need. Appetites wane at BM, and so does your thirst. So make yourself drink more. No fun getting an IV at 3am

If I was solo my first year, id keep it light and have a blast.

Besides theres less than 6 weeks until BM, you would be hard pressed to FIND a camp to take you. (probably doable though)

Where are you from? You may be able to meet a few people before so you have a few comfort oasis's with familiar faces.

Hello Simply! Hmmm...words of wisdom
1.) Have no expectations
2.) Go with your gut instinct (follow your heart)
3.) drink water like a camel
annndddddd you say your ready to party, eh? :D :D :D Take the best party you've ever been too. Times it by about 50. Then, add 24 hours (each day) times 7 days (week). Add 50,000 variables. Now, are you r e a l l y ready to party? TIP: Remind yourself to sleep occasionally :)

Get a Camelbak, get a water mister, bring earplugs, remember to sleep from time to time, invest in something comfortable enough to actually sleep on, don't do anything stupid and illegal (at least not out in the open), don't be a MOOPer, and drink lots of water with heavily diluted Emergen-C. Keeps ya goin' during those blistering desert days.

Oh, and I don't know what part of the country you're coming from, but here in the desert the temperature tends to change pretty radically when the sun goes down. I know all the lists warn you to bring clothes for both hot and cold weather, but go the extra mile and bring something to keep you warm if you're gonna be away from camp at nightfall. Last year wasn't so bad, but I've had years where I was running around in my underoos all day and then suddenly it was so chilly that I had to shiver my way back to camp and change before I could continue the festivities. My current solution (because I can't sew for shit) is a cape type thing made from a yard of fleece fabric that I got for five bucks at Wal-Mart. I tie it around my neck (like a cape) and it becomes my blankie when the temperatures drop. The more competent costume makers amongst us make fabulous fur coats that I am very very envious of, but I'm pretty happy with my lame little cape thing. Remember, it doesn't matter how awesome your costumes are if you have to throw a big, lame, undecorated coat on top of them to keep warm.

Get to know your neighbors. Be sure to find a wonderful group of people to socialize with......we are everywhere! Find the amazing people at The Livers End Bar! I'm not sure yet where we'll be...we'll register at Playa Info when we get out there.
