Make a list and check it twice. Don't forget your tickets. Don't worry about being cool or fitting in. Relax.
Welcome Home.
Where's my fucking gift? (Joking, joking. So you get the hang of the eplaya, we're a pretty snarky bunch).
There's tons of good info ion the Q&A section, page after page of it.

It has been said before in many places, but I will repeat it here for emphasis: Drink plenty of water every day. Not just alcohol or caffeinated soda or coffee, but actual hydration H2O (or sports drink, Recharge, Emergen-C, or whatever). I just had an emotional meltdown this very afternoon over (nearly) nothing, and it was because 1) it was 98 degrees 2) it was 23 % humidity 3) I was tired and thirsty. Just a little of each, but a volatile combo in near-playa conditions. Now I'm home with 3 ice cold glasses of Recharge in me, and I wonder exactly what it was that ruined my afternoon..I predict you and your mates will have a wonderful time experiencing sensory overload and meeting other people who will make you feel very happy and special IF YOU TAKE GOOD CARE OF YOURSELVES. Physically, I mean.
Enjoy.
There's only one first time.

Hi Moonchild!! Last year was my first year and it was different than anything I've ever done. Here's a few things that were helpful to me: You can try but you will not see everything - art seems to spring up in places that were empty in the earlier part of the week, so you may want to re-explore the open playa. If you get tired - take a nap, sit down, have a drink. If you don't get enough rest throughout the week, you'll miss the best part at the end of the week... like a few of my friends did last year. Bring a chair. Bring a bike. Lock your bike even when you're in camp, if you're not right next to it - it's a good idea to get a combo lock, so you don't have to worry about losing a key. Bring something that attaches to you to keep drinkable liquid in so you don't forget to keep drinking. Bring a cup with a handle (to attach to something) and a tight lid. If you're staying anywhere near 10:00 (and maybe 2:00?), bring earplugs unless you're a deep sleeper or seriously love ontz, ontz, ontz music. You must read the Survival Guide. Then, be vigilant but not obsessively worrried about survival - you'll be prepared and you'll be fine. Mostly, don't be nervous - we may let you waste away but we won't let you die out there...

I highly recommend two things:
1) drink gatorade mostly, not just water. You can buy it in powder form by the can at wal-mart in reno or other places. I use the powder somewhat diluted since we're drinking so much of it. Since using this broadly, we have eliminated dehydration and med tent situations in our camp.
2) sleep. actually sleep. sleeping has been the best health addition to my burn experiences. my first year I slept literally 2 hours over a 6 day period and wound up with a nasty 3-week long ear infection that was dreadfully painful. Now days I make it a point to sleep a few (2-4) hours each day and even have a "night off" where I actually get 6-8 hours sleep. It will all still be there..
have fun and see you on the playa...

It's amazing how the playa can hone your survival skills..If you're aware of whats going on. If you're nervous, however, I can almost guarantee that your neighbors on the playa will be more than willing to help you out. Have a great time out there!

Don't forget your goggles and your dust mask, bandanna, gas mask, fill in the blank with what you want to cover your face during a storm, etc... dust storms can be fun with the right equipment
make sure to also bring a cover for your bed, pillow, and sleeping back so ya don't have to come back to a bed full of playa to sleep on and a bag full of playa dust to sleep in.... made that mistake last year... but then again it did not bug me much so.

I took my military issued one with me last year.... cool thing about that is you can drink while you have it on because the canteen caps have plugs on them and are airtight after you screw them shut so you can plug them into a drinking tube on the front of the mask and drink without taking it off...

they even sell an adapter for camelbaks so that you can hook them into your masks drinking system... check out camelbak's sight they got a lotta cool stuff on there

I lost my grandfather out there a few years ago. He was eaten by a sandworm (much like the ones seen in the movie "Dune"). It was a bad experience but it could have been prevented if he would have had a large object to hold above his head to increase his size. Also a few of my friends are MIA but I am still hopeful. You should be okay. Just make sure you drink a lot of booze and consume drugs because worms don't like the taste of those.
