Newbie coming from Boulder/Denver, Colorado

Post by JassenB » Wed Jul 30, 2008 6:01 pm

Burning Man has always been just something I heard about, but this year it'll be something I experience. I've been doing a lot of reading and asking a lot of questions to people I know that have gone.

Unfortunately, the people I was going to tag along with aren't actually going to go, so I've suddenly become very apprehensive. I'm still going to come, but am leery of doing so solo.

At this point, my plan is to show up very early Monday morning, find a place to camp, and see who shows up next to me. I've been told that there's a huge electronica/trance element somewhere on the playa, so I hope to find that and just chill out to cool beats for 6 days.

I'll be car camping, which I'm no stranger to. I already live out of a suitcase in my trunk and either couch surf or crash in my car on any given night, so the only change to my normal mode of living is going to be all the new layers of Reflectix in the windows and roof of the car. :)

If any part of my plan sounds like a really bad idea, I'd love for somebody to clue me in.

Many thanks in advance!

Hello JassenB :D ! Everything you said sounds about right. A couple others is remember to bring enough water (15+/- gallons) and maye a portable campstove if you cook (granola bars s u c k after two days  ) Prepare and bring like you were the only one in the desert (although, about 50,000 of your friends will show up to say hi) Where you park your car is where you camp. Have a great time out. S o a k i t i n

Honestly, we don't quite know yet. We've first decided to go at the beginning of the summer. and we have been all over the place this summer. We are having a burn meeting on the 17th to make the final decisions.

I understand that each area is a little different so we are trying to figure out where the best place to be is going to be. Where did you have in mind?

frunkle and jansen, take advantage of Colordos burning man community, its really top nothc. Last night we had a really nice meet and greet for newbies at a local park at which we had a costume swap and a lengthy q & A period followed by a fire show. www.coloradoburningman.com
