Welcome to the eplaya ladykinsf! It's hard to throw a rock in the bay area and not hit a burner. You shouldn't have a hard time making connections with people in your area. Keep an eye out here for events going on in your area between now and then.http://eplaya.burningman.org/viewforum.php?f=26 There are also regional listings here that you can use. East Bay:http://regionals.burningman.com/us_ca_eby.html North Bay:http://regionals.burningman.com/us_ca_nby.html SF:http://regionals.burningman.com/us_ca_sf.html
My first trip I didn't know anyone. I read the first timers guide and the survival guide, packed up way more stuff than I needed and headed out. It was an excellent adventure. Don't be afraid to make a go of it on your own. There are years of accumulated knowledge available to make sure you have a safe, happy, and fun time at the burn. You won't have a problem meeting people out there, even if you're a homicidal, axe wielding maniac. You might fit right in at the Barbarian Camp.

thanks for the links. i'll start researching ASAP. being a girl and new to the B.M. world, i would ideally love to find people to head out there with instead of going it alone.

No worries - as an adult use your radar and sort through the offers, More than likely you will get a lot of legit offers as well.

Always happy to help out a newby. Just take off your clothes, lay on your back and do everything the experienced burner tells you todo.

Yeah, Burning Man is based on radical self reliance.

We don't actually get a lot of "just a girls" at burning man.
Don't let the crowds put you off.
You only have a short commute from the city anyhow.

There are in fact a lot of burners in the bay area that never quite got around to going.
Must be a local thing.
But there are a lot of regulars around.
Find something interesting in your area or just go out and meet people when you get to the playa.

Hey girl! I am a virgin burner looking to possibly go alone too. I am trying to help out at at theme camp to get to know people. I was going to go with the boyfriend but decided the first time would probably be better sola. I would LOVE to meet some free spirit chicks to kick it with on the playa. I love positive female energy!! If I do end up making it out there(from CO) I would totally be down to meet up with you. I feel as though we could be friends.....

So what happened? Are you still there? I thought by this time you would told us about yourself.

we gave you a few snarky answers, played you some great music and yet we still don';t know anything at all about you. What do you want here?

My suggestion, as requested above, is that you join us in a little banter and friendly conversation. then you will find the answers you seek.

Hey ladykins!

You will get a lot of mocking replies to your post but don't sweat it!

It is cool to go with people you know, however, it's equally as cool (almost MORE fun) to go alone.

My first year I did just as someone else posted here. I read all the information available, read forums, etc. Packed WAY more than I needed, hehe.

I went mostly alone (I did know a girl out there who had given me info and I camped near her and her friends, altho I was technically alone) and had a blast. You can't avoid meeting tons of nice people.

I even had some annoying mishaps. I had purchased a camp stove at a garage sale and planned my food around cooking on it and it broke! So I had to adapt and eat mostly raw/snacks. Lots of hummus and pita bread with veggies, etc. It's just part of the experience, I still ended up being radically self-reliant. I did, however, get invited to a lovely gourmet dinner by some nearby neighbors who saw me riding by on my bike wearing a funky combination of wings, fur and other weird costumey things. They thought it looked neat and hollered at me to come over and eat with them. :D It was a blast!

My second year I went even more alone and ended up meeting my neighbors and joining their camp. Now I have a big group of friends here in the Bay Area (I moved down here from Portland) and a camp/family I will camp with every year!

Don't be afraid to go it alone if that's how it ends up. You will meet amazing people and possibly make lifelong friends. My first two years alone were a GREAT adventure! :) I highly recommend it.
