First timer from San Diego

Post by DaygosDankest25 » Mon Feb 15, 2010 5:05 pm

How's it going everyone? Since im going to be spending a fair amount of time on these forums in anticipation for this year; I figured I would say hi and introduce myself. Anyway, my name is Branson. Im a 22 yr old male college student born and raised in San Diego. I love hiking, I love skating, I love camping, I love music, I love the water and I love most people haha. So...ya, feel free to ask questions if youd like :) And if you have any tips and knowledge you feel I should be aware of, please share. The general consensus I get from reading through the forums a bit though is to prepare as much as possible and don't take anything too seriously.

With all that said, Hey :)

Hi Branson. I was 22 once, so I can relate.
Welcome to this crazy place called eplaya.
There are lots of great tips for nearly anything you can think of. Scroll down the list and see what interests you. Feel free to ask questions if you can't find it with a search. Read the first timers guide as well as the survival guide.

I hope you enjoy your stay here at Hotel ePlaya and I hope you actually make it to Black Rock City this year!

Thx for the welcome. I'm in the process of reading and soaking up as much knowledge as possible right now. I guess one of my main questions is, when you arrive do you just set up shop wherever or is it dictated by the ticket you purchase?

Branson,

Have you been to any local San Diego events? We're having a film festival next weekend: http://www.sdbmff.com/ and we have regular events throughout the year - Decompression and FDLM among the larger camping events. There's a yahoo mailing list you might want to check out if you're not on: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/sdburningman/ It's a great way to get to know people and make the burn last all year long. It's also a good way to meet people to camp with.

To answer your question, if you're not camping with a group, you can camp anywhere that isn't pre-assigned - about half the city - but the earlier you arrive the more free space there is. Better, though, is to find some friends and camp together - or find a theme camp that needs eager young volunteers.
What goes around, comes around.

Aweome, thx for the link. I'm looking forward to getting involved with our local burner community here. Are there any theme camps you would suggest for a first timer if I decide to go that route? I would love to volunteer as I don't have much else to gift other than my time and charm haha.

Youl get a map, upon entering. Any area that is shaded, is reserved for theme camps. Anyother spots are free game. You'll make friends with your neighbors in no time flat.

Welcome!
