coming to bm this year.been reading the forums for months so i dont think i have stupid questions. gyres got me obssesed with !!@#$%^&&*() no mesh tents.elliots a genius. the list is too long of people with great info and snark. im 56, from az.,cactus mover, and ready to play.but a slow typer. cant think of anyting else right now so see you on the playa.

For a quarter of a century I drove 18-wheelers. One day I came to work and there was this utterly crumpled truck sitting in the yard, freshly towed in. When the mechanics saw me, they asked if I was OK, for they had heard that "some guy named Elliot" had wrecked that truck.

Some guy named Elliot had wrecked that truck allright -- some guy they had recently hired and I had not even heard of yet.

your the only genius elliot i know.lol......i normally have to rebuild stuff i buy to get it to do what i want. but not a genius just adaptable like TT. If you google......how to plant a saguaro....the first listing there shows 10 pics showing what i do. I built the rig.

Very cool. I am surprised that the Saguaro can be planted with soil four feet up on its trunk. That would harm a lot of other plants.

Now.... No live plants in Black Rock City! Even a Saguaro couldn't live out there -- they say. So you will have to figure out some other clever -- and artistic, since this is an Art Festival -- way to use that rig iin BRC. Can you make it launch a piano thru the air? I'm bringing pianos!

I could launch a saguaro like a scud missile, but the spuge would make hellashus moop so i guess not. the plants root out fromm the dirt level on down so thair more stable after transplanting. :D

Are you serious? I ask because we are serious about launching a piano. It has been done before with a trebuchet (a type of catapult). Yes, it means a lot of MOOP-picking, but it would be worth it.

(Note to self: Bring an extra piano.)

that plant was 3 tons. I think something less ambisious for my first trip to bm. elliot.....quick question. rough est. opperating hours for 200 watt [1/4 hp] 12volt , 40 max con amps ,friction drive,1 inch drive roller ,24 inch tire trike 450 pounds, 96ah battery 50% discharge. go go go. And gyre i think white roof coating will take care of mesh anywhere.........thank you my eplaya heros!!!!!!!!

That's a more complicated question than you might think.
Your best bet is to go on one of the electric bike forums.

Batteries have discharge curves, not flat ratings.
Usually they produce less power in a short time.
1 amp/hour is 1 amp for one hour.
.5 A for 2 hours and so on.

I don't know what 40 max con amps is.

Usually you need a motor controller for an electric motor on a vehicle.
Radically more efficient anyhow.
Most bike motors are 24 to 48 volts.

I could have bought a larger turbine cheaper, used, but
since i really didn't have any experience with turbines, i bought a
new unit from Wren. it has autostart which checks the
glow plug, lights it, then runs the starter and feeds in propane-butane
gas til the thermocouple shows 100 C rise. it then starts to
feed in jet-a fuel til the revs hit 32,000.
then it runs it up to my idle rpm, about 80,000 rpm.
the gas runs thru a turbine which turns a max of 65,000 and
then into a gear reduction to give an output shaft max of
11,600 rpm and i timing belt reduce it 2:1 from there.

I built a small motorcycle from tubing, powered by electric. (road legal)
after a couple of years i changed it over to a Wren turboprop engine power.
model aircraft type, about 8 hp.
makes a lotta noise and draws a crowd at bike week, daytona.
n1 is 160,000 rpm, n2 is 65,000 max. output shaft is 11,800.
look at wren, the MW-54 turboprop engine.

Hmmmm.... I looked at the Wren site. The MW-54 is a jet, but they do have shaft-output versions for propeller use. About 3.000 (three thousand) British Pounds. I guess I won't be putting one of those on my
Baby Grand Piano after all.

But I'm sure going to look at all those other sites.

Check out forklift, golf cart and pallet mover electric drives.

I have the electric motor system that used to be on that turbine scooter.
I think that it came from that type of mover.
It came with the controller.
It is a heavy motor though.

mines a 12 volt system on a palmer ind. joyrider with controler. 40 continues max amp draw,200 watt 1/4 hp 1 inch friction drive roller 24 inch tires 96ah battery. est. 10 to 40 mile range. just wanted a closer est. then that. but thanks for the reply gyre.

That gives you an hour at full power, if it's a nicad or nimh or lithium.

The forums could give you a better idea, or do some testing and make estimates.
Battery condition varies a lot.
And any friction issues with the rig will be a factor too.
Try to get a second battery so you can be charging one while using another.
Or use together for a longer range, if possible.

Batteries need to be matched and isolated too, when in parallel.

If you can get a measurement of actual draw at a specific speed, you can make some good guesses.

It takes a lot of power to go through dust puddles too.

Be sure to be aware of rules about powered bikes.
