Second year! First time Solo

Post by Green Fairy » Tue Jun 15, 2010 10:35 pm

Hey all!

Second year burner, first time solo, not gonna lie, I'm totally nervous about all the planning of it. My pal did most of the organizing last year. I feel like taking on the challenge will be good for me, but not sure where to start. Got my ticket, no plane ticket yet, I'm stationed out in Boston. Can't find ppl to go with, but who needs 'em, right? When there is a world of burners at the click of a button. My thoughts right now are more on survival: water, shelter food, a bike none of which I currently have. I would assume I'm flying but have not bought a ticket yet, (got the BM one though) maybe because something else will happen?

How do you pack light, what are the essentials without loosing the great stuff for costumes? What kind of places are in Reno that can hook me up for travel and supplies? What kinds of tents are best? Is an RV worth it?

I'm excited for this...
:P

Hey there, welcome to eplaya!

When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle.
Then I realized that the Lord doesn't work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me

eplayan name of FrankA had similar situation last year, and he asked good questions and formed a plan and made it work. I would suggest reading his old posts and see if you like any of his ideas.

Welcome!
It'll be me and my GF's second year as well (we're not birgins anymore were Experienced Newbies).
Last year we camped with a medium sized veteran camp, this year we're doing our own thing, just like you.

I have no idea how to pack light. When I camp, I fill a huge Suburban to the brim, the carry more shit in a trailer.

Dome tents are best for sleeping, cause they typically have a lower profile. There are many small back packing tents that only weigh a couple pounds. But I think they would turn to an oven in the sun.

Hit up Stage Camp under theme camps.

Other than that, welcome to the playa! I'm sure you'll find everything you need here.

ps. Isn't there a huge trailer truck that leaves the East cost someplace and you can buy space by the sqft? Then fly in and pick up your stuff?

I read about it in the JRS from a couple weeks ago
"
SHIPPING CONTAINER LEAVING FROM THE SOUTHEAST US

Need to get your stuff from the Southeast to the Burn? Bubba John's here to help. He writes:

"We are planning a trip to Burning Man from the SE USA.... Primary city New Orleans (Louisiana//Alabama/ Atlanta)

Cost
$225 round trip for every 45 cu feet for storage of gear there and back

$100 for each bike

Full details:

Thanks.""

I'm sorry I thought it was further north but apparently I was wrong.
Though I do remember reading something similar to this from the North East last year, I could be wrong...again.
Ask around I'm sure some one has more info.
