***First Timer Hexayurt***

Post by thk127 » Wed Jun 23, 2010 9:13 am

':!:'Hey my name is Steven, I’m going to be making my way up to Black Rock City from Southern California with one of my friends. It is looking like an 11 hour drive and then some. I have never been to Burning Man before so I’m still trying to read the forums, the 2009 survival guide, and the First Timers Guide. I'm looking to meet up with new people and just have the time of my life at Burning Man!

As a first timer I’m going to attempt to build a Hexayurt to stay in. I have heard good things about the Hexayurt in keeping people cool, and protecting them from the harsh elements of the playa. If anyone else [is or has made a Hexayurt before and you have any tips please let me know.

I just have some questions as a first timer. If you could help me out that would be great.

':?:' How do i keep the Hexayurt from getting taken away by the wind?

':?:' Should i consider making my Hexayurt water proof?

':?:'Do you have to know people to set up in a Themed Camp?
Or do I have to ban together with the other confused First Timers and set up camp with them?

There is an entire hexayurt thread in the Q&A, Tips and Tricks forum.

welcome thk127, we are also virgins and also going to build a hexayurt on the playa. Search for the hexayurt thread here it has many useful tips from burners. We put up or walls the other day, there were only 2 of us at the time and couldn't put up the roof-it was quite roomy. We plan to do a complete test run before the event though. We don't usually get much rain out here in N. Nevada but you never know. I think if you are using rmax with the right tape it should be water proof enough (least I hope so). Anyways good luck to you and happy burning...
