First Time to Burning Man!
Greetings all, My name is Karen I am from Dublin Ireland and I am going to the Burning Man Festival this year for the 1st time. I am looking to meet fellow people who are going this year and to get good advice on what to bring, camepervans to rent etc. Me and 2 others are coming from Las Vegas and meeting people we know at Burning Man, they live in SF and go every year. Has anyone any good sites to reccommend on renting campers / RV's from Las Vegas? Any help would be much appreciated. I am really looking forward to meeting new people and having the time of my life at Burning Man roll on Aug 30th :D
Let me be the first to say welcome to the eplaya. Read the survivors guide and what is already on the eplaya. It is a pool of knowledge for which I am so greatful.
Sidenote: I am half Irish and have SPF 80 and 100 going with me brcause I burn so bad. Remember to pack suncreen or to pick up a lot of it when you land.

I will make sure to bring plenty of sunscreen but I tan easy so shouldnt be problem :) I have been looking for camper vans for our party and have come across a few sites which seem to be pretty good has anyone else any other places they use?
Curiousgnate: We are flying to LA, then making our way to Vegas then heading to Burning Man and then finish up in San Fran and fly back to Dublin the 10th Sept. it will be one amazing trip and I am really looking forward to it :)

I'd make a few inquires about that caravan last week, if i could. They could be reserved by now, they typically are months ahead of time. (Labor Day weekend is a big motoring holiday, and burningman is just a blip in it.) Be prepared to spend a day cleaning it after you leave. Some companies will not rent to people going to burningman because they've been left a mess. You can keep some of the dust out, but by no means all.

If I were flying in I would do the following.
Skip Las Vegas or do Vegas and come back to LA for the camper rental.
Las Vegas rentals are ~ $800 more than renting in LA.
El Monte RV charges ~ $2000 for a basic camper for 11 days , A28th - S8th. Same camper in LV is ~ $2800. Miles to Burning Man are almost the same.
El Monte is burner friendly.
The drive from LA to BM is beautiful, through the Siearras, lots if hot springs, mountain rivers, lakes etc.
The drive from LV to BM is dessert wasteland, nuclear testing sites, gas stations every 200 miles etc.
Google is your friend. Map things out, figure out some quotes, make a few plans and see what tickles your groups fancy.

We have our whole trip planned out this way, there would be no point in flying to Vegas (which is closer to BM) then going up to LA and then back down towards BM it is pointless, but thanks for the comment anyway! We have our flights booked into LA, travel to Vegas then onto BM then drop off in San Fran for few days then home.
I was looking on the El Monte site, they are more like tour buses if i had the dosh i would get one no bother but we are in recessionary times so have to accommodate all of our budgets! I found a site which also rents out campers for BM but they are ltd so we will need to move fast. thanks all for your comments and advice :)
Is there anyone else out there travelling form Vegas?

Welcome Karen,
were you able to find a campervan? its pretty late in the season, but some clever people have addressed this market. Just this week I saw a camper for sale on craigslist that was already playafied. A couple weeks ago I saw a very cute little motorhome that a previous burner had painted and decorated. I think people are finding it cheaper to buy/sell cheap wheels given what the rental places charge.
There are also at least two guys I know of that are renting out motorhomes that they take out and set up on the playa and then pick up again. All you have to worry about is getting there.
Good luck!

Hi there This Woman,
Yeah from people's replies on this I notice we have left it a little late to book a camper, but fingers crossed we will get one, I have been in touch with a company so hopefully they will have one left. We really don't wanna buy one as we would have to sell it before we went home etc bit too much hassle ya know. I was looking at that site where the guys bring the motorhome to you and take it away for you but the rental charges are so expensive, ah i am sure we will find something but thanks for the info much appreciated. Where r u from?

Karen!
We´re two swedish guys who are also flying to Vegas and looking for people to share a ride with. Would you have space for two more people? Off course we'll pay for ourselves. We're both tidy non-smokers, 28 and 25 years old. It's the ride we're looking for; bringing a tent to stay in for the festival. PM me if intrested, and if not, see you on the playa!
