J-Step, currently in Omaha NE, Virgin

Post by JStep » Tue Oct 19, 2010 5:40 pm

Hi,
Looking forward to next year. There's a small group of us who are beginning our planning now for our first burn. As others have remarked, I think Rites of Passage is ideal for a bunch of virgins making this their first burn. I've been aware of and wanting to go to Burning Man since 97/98 but by then I was kinda "over" my bohemian road life rainbow hippie thing. I'm 37 now, having grown up (and out) am reconnecting with my artistic DIY side. I think Burning Man will be beyond all the Rainbow Gatherings, Dead Shows and Music Festivals of my past and I look forward to being transformed.

You're absolutely 100% correct on that one. Prepare to have your mind flipped inside out from external stimuli alone.. not even from what's being passed around in the parking lot.

Forget the crystal sucking "can a brother get a hug" stuff, either.. (I say this because I did the whole RG, Dead show thing many years back..) This is all about self-reliance and personal creation for the betterment of our realm. Come prepared and without expectation, and you'll have the experience of your life.

Welcome!

Have you made contact with the Nebraska regional yet? (It's not officially a regional yet but it's still some damn good people). You can find them here:
http://www.cornburners.net/

If you have then you already know some great people, if not then what are you waiting for? Make contact!

By the way echoing JKisha welcome to ePlaya!

And oh yeah, this will definitely exceed any rainbow gathering or other similar events...it can be a very transformational experience.

Well, welcome.

Yep. Nothing like any of those things. Good that you did them. But nothing like them.

I used to be from Iowa. I know the logistical nightmare that BM is. From any long distance away. I admire all those who come by the Oregon or Immigrant Trail. Or any other trail. Truly an undertaking.

It's amazing. It's better than that...

The advantage of Immigrant Trail is it takes you directly to the National Conservation Area.

Go to your profile and un-check "Disable BBCode" to get the embedding of quotes right.

There isn't a disable BBCode, just a "Always allow BBCode" which I had checked yes but had to go and recheck yes. We'll see with this reply if it works.

It works. (I just read from underneath the text field when I'm posting. Nice to know you can figure it out from incomplete directions.)
