First timer from London

Post by Ninzy » Sun Jan 09, 2011 10:04 am

Hi All

My names Ninzy - I'm from the UK and would seriously love to journey to Burning Man 2011. If I'm honest, its a little intimidating  !
Anyone from the UK going?!? Would love to get in contact with anyone that is planning to go as I honestly don't know where to start.

Love to hear from all Burners - new or old timers about their experience and any advice they you can give me!

There are people from the UK going. I don't know who they are, but they are out there.
On this board, there's a regionals section. Read the titles of the threads--most posters will identify where they are from when they post there. Also on the main site (burningman.com) there's a list of regional contacts. Get on the mailing list for the uk, or your sub-set thereof, and you'll find out about parties and other get togethers. And you can always watch this sub-forum to see who else starts a thread here.

Thaks Cryptofishist.

I so want to go to BM 2011 - have been looking at RVs and camping equipment (haven't camped since I was 14 lol)! Hoping to make some contacts and get my ass down to BM this year!

If you rent an RV with one or more people, you will want this thread about House Rules for RV users in the "Q&A Tips & Tricks" forum--it looks very helpful.

Really think about going in an RV! If youre with a group, it may be worth the cost. Many RV companies add an extra charge, for those going to Burning Man.
Their are several people on this board, from the UK. Just keep reading, and researching! Best of Luck! In hindsight, as long as youre prepared, its not soo intimidating, as it is expensive.....BUT WORTH every penny!

Fly into Reno. If you fly into Vegas or San Francisco or Salt Lake City it may be cheaper, and you will make up part or all of the difference in driving. Load up on gear and food in Reno.
Alternately, find yourself a camp (and the time to look is NOW) and have them bring your gear and food. I'd plan on getting them a good chunk of hte money so you don't rip them off. Of course, they could always rip you off, so be aware and take precautions. There are a number of people who come from all over the world, so keep reading here, and other message boards and see what you learn.

I'm heading over from London and I'm also a first timer. I'd be up for getting a group of us together to head on over.

packing, traveling...

Post by MonetGypsy » Fri Jan 21, 2011 4:07 pm

I studied for a semester in London, and the task of packing for 7 weeks in a strange city seemed daunting then. I can imagine doing the reverse, and camping, must be even more so. Remember to leave a little space for the trinkets you may be gifted.

I loved London (Camden markets, how I miss you!) and will be delighted if I catch an earful of Brittish accents on the playa!

I am from London originally and live now in Holland. Travelling out of Amsterdam for the trip. Also the first time for me too, so exciting planning and getting ready.

I am not sure yet whether to fly into SF and then hire a car, or Reno and then hire.

That's odd; most people travel TO Amsterdam for the trip.

Graidawg and Ninzy,

There is a regional London group that are quite active - they have 'Burning Pub' once a month and they are mates of mine... they are all top people.

They usually do the Quixotes Cabaret Club on Playa..

I was at Decom in London in December and it was utterly wicked!

i think they are just doing a low key bar setup on playa in 2011
