Newbie burner here from LA, Ca

Post by j.escobar » Tue Feb 22, 2011 3:40 am

Hello everyone!

My name is Jorge and 2011 will be my first time burning! Im so excited an look forward to
Sharing this experience with all of you. I go to many local burning man freindly events and love the people i encounter as well as the experiences gained from these events and im extremely anxious to take it up a notch.

This year whether it be alone or with other veteran burners I ill be attending burning man regardless. My goal is to find awesome people to go with so as to have someone experienced show me the way. Sure i could read faq's and frequently asked questions on thr site all day but i want to make sure i soak up as much knowlege as there is to know so as to make my first experience there the best one of them all.

If you happen to be reading this and youre a fellow newbie get in touch and we'll take on this marvelous journey together. If youre a veteran and are in need of help with anything and would in turn like to shoot me some tips then please contact me as well.

Thank you so much for your time and i cant wait to see you all in August!

J.E.

Hey there, welcome to eplaya!

When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle.
Then I realized that the Lord doesn't work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me

Thanks for the heart felt welcomes! Im so excited and cant wait. Its most likely ill be solo camping which isnt a problem at all, but since my last post it looks like i might be camping with a group call the playa surfers, a local LA burner group.

In any case if i were to camp solo. What do you reccomend as far as food goes? Is there anywhere on the playa where they sell ice?

Solo camping isn't a problem at all. You'll make tons of friends with your neighbors.

There's quite a few threads about food on here already. I'm a fan of canned food or stuff that doesn't need refrigeration so I don't have to fuss with food that might spoil. They do sell ice, but I just use that for keeping the beer cold. :D

Since you're in LA you might want to check out lightning in a bottle, it's pretty burn-y and is memorial day weekend. I think tickets go on sale monday.

Hi Jorge!

Go out to ePlaya Forum Index, Click on Q&A Tips & Tricks. Halfway down the page there's a 4-page thread called "Need help deciding what to eat". There are more links within it to some of the other food threads you can find on pages 7, 8, & 9 of that forum.

There is ice at the event. $3/bag for small chunks, or a big block. It's nice to have two per trip . . . the big block lasts a while, the crushed fills in the gaps.

Like Mudpuppy, I mostly use it for the champagne. :D

You guys are definately super amazing! So helpful, super polite and i can already feel the love. Hopefully i get to meet you guys on the playa! If theres anything what so ever i can do to return the kindness feel free if theres anything i can help you guys with. Im sure its not that hard to find each other out there. I found some people to camp with who seem to be pro's but definately keep me posted on where you guys will be camping and maybe we'll bump into each other.

Ive given this experience alot of thought and my main goal is to expose my self with as many wonderful human beings while on this adventure, aside from the great music and all the amazing things im certain ill see and experience.

Aside from necesity questions, what are some annual happenings at burning man i should definately keep an eye out for. Is there anything in perticular that happens every year? Art shows? Any type of shows? I saw on youtube a bunch of videos of some amazing artist as well as fire dances. I want to make sure not one sq. Inch of land is left unexplored but im guessing i should set priorities. :D

Thanks again for the tips.

Don't get too comfy now! So far you've been introduced to the welcoming committee. If you hang around ePlaya for very long, you'll get offended sooner or later. Just don't take it personally and know that folks care even when they "hand you your hat" so to speak.

There are tons of us in SoCal and you should have a great time,,,, just understand it's about participation,,,, BurningMan is NOT a spectator's event!
RETROFROLIC, the place of Pink, Pain and Pleasure!

Some call me Tnt,,,, works for me!

No one ever sees all of Burning Man, it is impossible. You will get a booklet at the Greeters, which will have events listed. Some of them will not happen, but that's the nature of the playa.

Watch the Art and Performance thread for discussions of projects and shows. Watch the calendar of events on the main site, and the theme camps. If you see something you like, you can plan to get involved with it. There is something for everyone. Music, meditation, naked bike rides, roller derby, well, stuff. Lots of stuff.

Some things do happen year after year, but you can't count on that.

We have a meet and greet for eplayans at 6 on Thursday at Barbie Death Camp and Wine Bistro. we even wear name tags some years.

welcome.

AntiM beat me to it. Make sure to put it on your must-do list: the annual Meet & Greet at Barbie Death Camp & Wine Bistro will have over 100 of these knuckleheads showing up. And, dare I admit it, there have been several "romantic liasons" begun and consumated at the event. Always at 6 p.m. on Thursday. Bring ice, liquor, or food!
