ready for rites of passage

Post by elKay » Sun Apr 03, 2011 11:58 pm

Hello ePlaya,

My name is Lori and I will be a first timer this year with my husband Rick. We are thrilled about the theme as we will be experiencing our own rite of passage. Planning to drop our youngest daughter off at college on the way, and will be celebrating our empty nest. (We love being parents, but are ready for a new chapter, after raising 4 kids)

Both of us are artists for a living (I paint with oils, he is an animator) we live in the mid-west and I have never even been west. We will be driving down with our 1963 airstream.

I am loving this forum, and have been lurking for a while, learning as much as I can to prepare.

It is funny- I first heard about Burning Man about 15 years ago and thought that it sounded like the worst event in the world- something that I would never want to do... Now I can hardly wait.

You sound like you are ready for the empty nest. Quite hondestly,,,, it's a pretty nice gig. Things like BM are much more doable without kids.

Come by and experience our unique Rite of Passage! Welcome Home!

Thank you for the welcome. I look forward to reading and preparing with the help of this great resource. I do have questions that pop up, so I know where to go for answers.

I love the Airstream, but at the moment it is more of an aluminum tent- it will be good solid shelter, but needs a lot of work... I pulled it out of a florida swamp when I inherited it from my little brother who died two years ago- he was always wanting to come out to burning man (he was the person who I first heard about burning man from) so I will bring some of his ashes.

Hey there, welcome to eplaya!
Elderberry

When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle.
Then I realized that the Lord doesn't work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me

Welcome!!

Those are the best ones IMHO. Gut it and make it into something amazing! I am looking for something like that myself to build what the wife and I call the "Ark" for when our nest is empty. So far we have the tentative design for the bedroom but little else.

I've been trying for years to get my wife to come with me. Finally, I said my final wish is to have her bring my ashes to BM, placed in the Temple, and lit off on Temple Burn night. And she HAS TO come for the whole event!

Got her!

Last week it was our plan to attend, but now it is official.... yesterday we finally bought a truck (to pull the airstream) and also bought our tickets to burning man.

Can't wait to meet you all.

Woo-hoo!

You should've posted about the truck in the "One Item for Burning Man a Day" thread.
