No more lurking!!

Post by TinkerMom » Fri Apr 22, 2011 7:23 pm

After lurking for a very long time, I decided to finally jump in!! I am a virgin burner from Flagstaff, AZ. I am bringing my 2 sons (both 18) for their first burn as well.
Because of unforseen problems, I have been trying to go to BM for about 13 yrs. I have read all the stuff I need to read, and then some. We have our tickets in hand, gas money saved up, and most of our gear ready to rock.
Cant wait to meet you all!!
And I am super excited to finally be coming home!!

No, they are ten days apart. One is a foster child that never left. And the other is my own. They really should be twins, they are so much alike in alot of ways.

I know that my foster is excited to help with putting up camp. And has even pitched in some money. My other son, may end up watching TV alone at home if he doesn't get on the band wagon. The tickets are a gift from me for their birthdays in Sept. But I did ask that they help with the gas and food. Since they are locusts and eat everything.

I am also hoping for my brother to join us from Oregon, who is going thru a divorce. Rites of Passage all around our family, right now.

TamaraK- I am hoping to meet up with a bunch of AZ folk soon. And I may even be caravaning up to the burn.

So what do the boys know about Burning Man? Had they heard about it before you brought it up?

When my son was 5 he saw it on TV. I came home from work and he was jumping up and down on the couch, telling me we HAD to go to this amazing thing. "Amazing thing" from a 5 yr old. Ha! So I started looking into it. And was transfixed from then. But, being a single mom, not all plans come thru.
My foster boy, we told him 3 yrs ago. And he has been on here lurking as well. I'm surprised he hasn't chimned in yet. And he is more excited than my son, who started all this. lol

That story is so cute, TinkerMom!

I cannot imagine what it would have done to me to know from the age of 5 that Burning Man existed. I'm envisioning soap bubbles popping around my head (like Beavis) right now. Flying cartoon bluebirds, just at the mind-blowing alternate timeline imagined. I'm not saying I'd be a better person or a worse one, but maybe a slightly happier one . . . and the anticipation by the time I finally attended would have been insane, and I have to think I would have hit the ground running rather that evolving as slowly as I did.

Who can say? It's fun to think about.

I hope both your boys get on the bandwagon--though if they do not, the 5 year old of the past served his "destiny" as your guide. :)

Welcome to ePlaya!

I'm hoping they both get spanked!! I'm too old for the spanking, but I will roll in the dust!! Since I received our tickets I haven't slept. Oh the excitement.
I do kick myself for not trying harder to be here sooner. That 5 yr old already knew where he needed to be. And I should've heard my inner self sooner. But so it goes. Out of the mouths of babes.....

Welcome to the ePlaya!!

I wish my boys were interested in going (21 & 20 yrs old). On the eve of my first burn I asked my youngest if he wanted to go (he was 15 at the time) and he said "There is no way in Hell I am going to that fu__ing Hippie-Fest!!!". Five burns later he is almost interested.

You are never too old to be spanked. 8) You need to request a spanking anyhow...

You are going to have a fantastic time and your boys are as well. Don't expect them to spend every minute with you. Plan some time together, but ensure they can explore on their own. You might want to bring a small white-board so that you and your boys can keep in touch. (You may not see them for days at at time ...)

Love Rice

I saw something about a white board on here one time. I have one on the ready.
I only gave them a couple rules; stay with me to set up and take down camp, and dinner is at 3 fingers! Otherwise, becareful, don't be an ass, and C ya!
When is the meet and greet? I can't wait!!

TinkerMom, the best way to almost guarantee to meet many of us on the playa is to attend the annual Meet & Greet, 6 p.m. Thursday at Barbie Death Camp & Wine Bistro. Each of the last four or five years we must have had over 100 ePlayans show up, so if you really want to meet somebody---like oh, me for example---that would be the ticket.

Don't let the delay bother you, Tinkermom.

The burning man I signed on for is long gone too.
I started buying tickets ten years before I made it to the playa.
Plans don't always go the way you want.

just come and enjoy . you and the boys will find things to do and hopefully want to try new things. People at BM are mostly expressive but people like me ( somtimes expressive and others times interverted) have all the fun we need. Just keep lot os water around. Last year I found that I was not doing that very well and almost didn't make it back to my camp ( thanks to my lovely friend).

Hope to see you on the playa

It pays to not be too confident.

I know of two very experienced burners that passed out last time, due to heat and water issues.
They thought they were okay.

I just didn;t think about it and all of the suddy around 2 and D I couldn't ride my bike anymore ( like I was drunk) and I needed to get to 7:30 and C. My friend gave me some of her water and suggested that we needed to walk and then put up with my rambling and sluggish walking all the way home. Not again!!!

Welcome Tinkermom! There are no spankings at greeters, but you can get a coupon good for a spanking at greeter's camp! We are looking forward to divesting you of your virginity with a ring of the bell, a roll in the dust, and big, big, hugs.

(You too Graidawg - I hope I'm working when you come through Greeters!)
