HI!

Post by helloworld246 » Wed May 18, 2011 9:45 pm

HI I haven't bought tickets yet...but really want to go this year (will decide by tomorrow :) and have started to buy things. It's my last year in CA before I move back east...and it seems like a perfect year. I'm just having trouble finding ppl. to go with. Is it a bad idea to go with only one other person?

Or...is there a way to find a group of ppl to go with!?

I guess i should post these ?s somewhere else.
ANYWAY
HI!

Hey there, welcome to eplaya!

When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle.
Then I realized that the Lord doesn't work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me

Welcome to eplaya! If you trust the person, not at all! If you go alone, you wont be alone when you step foot on the playa. Check the regionals in your new area. If you can fit it in your schedule, do it! You won't regret it!...probably. Best of Luck! and let us know tomorrow!

It will be my first time as well, and my last year in CT before moving back to the west coast, so we'll be crossing as we move in opposite directions!

I am going solo, but meeting friends when I get there. However, I am fully prepared to camp solo if my friends don't make it for some reason, and I am preparing that way just in case.

From what I have read, it should not be hard to find new friends when we get there, too. Hope you make it! :)

Hey HW, it's tomorrow, did you decide?
My first year, I went alone and met friends there. Two hot babes asked if I could give them a ride to the playa, so before I knew it, I had people and friends coming together. Just buy the ticket and everything else will plop into place!
See you there!

Just buy the ticket and start saving!

I am coming from Australia - and that’s a bloody long way...

Make the commitment and JUST DO IT

Don’t spend the next year going “I wish..."

Oh and read the eplaya tips about joining a theme camp! Some of the content is quite useful.

Hey! Like welcome aboard and shit.

Maybe if you wait until Sunday, the day after the rapture or apocalypse or something, you may find a deal. Who nkows? Why not?

Make sure you read EVERYTHING on the First Timer's Guide. http://www.burningman.com/first_timers/

And everything else on the website. Twice, at least.

I'm going by myself as are many other people. I'm camping by myself but I'll be surrounded by 50,000 other people as well as volunteering at Media Mecca. If it's jsut you and one other solid traveler, then you're fine.

Buy the ticket, take the ride.

JSRAT - I grew up in CT before moving to Brooklyn and then for whatever stupid reason Texas. (I miss NYC and the East Coast and regret moving every day, although being here is making Burning Man possible for me)

Welcome!

I went solo (unplanned) my first year and had a great time. You'll make all sorts of friends when you get there. There's also orphan camp (and others) that are sort of halfway between camping solo and a full on theme camp. We all bring our own stuff but have a communal shade structure to hang out under and socialize.

Telling me stuff like that only encourages me.

Hey Helloworld,

It's not a bad idea to come with just one other person (provided they are resilient and gung-ho, otherwise, it's even easier alone). You're most independent that way (though you can still visit theme camps all day if you want). If you have camping skills, like problem-solving, can pound rebar--you can hack it. You'll have neighbors immediately.

However, theme camps, in exchange for a certain amount of work or cash or a bit of both, can make your living situation much more comfortable (some provide meals, showers, shade, etc). And the right camp can be both fun and meaningful.

You know the answer to what you need better than we do.

It sounds like your year, though. :)
