Journey to Burning Man with me!

Post by seth_lovecraft » Sun Jun 05, 2011 10:22 am

Hi, I'm going to my first Burning man this year, and I'm trying to find anyone in the Mass./New England area who would want to split the cost of a van or minibus (Depending on the amount of people.). I also want to stop at a few places along the way, such as Slab city in Southern California. I'm pretty easy to get along with, neither a control freak or a flake. Anyone interested can message me, and we'll see if we're compatible. I'm part of a village, so there's no pressure to hang out while there if you don't want to.

PS: Sorry if this is the wrong board to post this. Let me know which one is.

Hi Seth,

Here's where you want to post your rideshare info. The link has not been activated for 2011 yet, but should be coming online in a few days: http://rideshare.burningman.com

You may also want to connect with Burners in your region...make face to face connections for potential travel mates: http://regionals.burningman.com/us_ma.html

Good luck. See ya on the playa!

Squat City, do you mean Slab City?

You might want to visit Slab City sooner than later. It's hard to imagine such a place lasting much longer. I'm sure that there is somebody somewhere who is bothered to no end that people are able to exist without paying money to rich people.

Hey there, welcome to eplaya!

When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle.
Then I realized that the Lord doesn't work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me

Hi Seth! You'll probably have no trouble finding someone to rideshare once the link Dragonpilot posted updates to 2011. (I wish I'd known about such a godsend way back in the day when I had transportation issues.) That you're not going straight to the event might make the absence too long for some, but perfect for the right person. You could also pick someone up in one of the towns you're visiting, or pick up a couple of international people in Reno or CA.

The 2011 guide is imminent, but here's the 2010 guide in the meantime:

Hi Seth.
I am in Providence and just bought a truck and was thinking of hauling a trailer if you have things you would like to send out. I'm going to leave in about a month (mid July).
I need to go across country to drop off my pet rabbit in Los Angeles.
If you have someone to stay with out on the West Coast, you are welcome to join me on the road trip.
I will be in the area of Black Rock City about a month prior but your things will be waiting for you when you get there. (If you want to send your things early and then send yourself & just catch a ride from the Bay Area or Reno or something later.)

Welcome Seth!
I had never heard of Slab City before reading your post. Place seems kinda crazy. Like it could be something out of Mad Max!
Or a place to do burning man if the BLM ever said no go on the Black Rock Desert.
Why don't ya stick your head in that hole and find out? ~piehole

Yeah, I saw a documentary on it and I was fascinated! Thanks for the helpful hints to everyone above! I can't believe how supportive everyone has been.

Hi Seth,

I'm planning to leave mid-August from Connecticut. Currently it's just me and my Maxima, which is not huge, but I can manage a passenger. I'm looking to visit friends in SoCal, though I was planning on heading there after the burn. I will not be on a tight schedule.

In any case, hope to see you on the Playa if not before. :)

Thats because this is your introductory thread!
I dare you to go post a tent/car port/car rental question in the Q&A!

Pop up

If it's a trap, I'm walking right into it. As for pop-up campers, do it up right and disguise it as something!

It would have been 'a learning experience'.... that was pretty much a trap.
As long as you ask constructive questions, and take a quick look for things you think might have been asked you'll be all good.

Seth...I've read enough to know...that was DEFINITELY a trap! Make sure to read before you ask...chances are good you'll find your answer. As for the pop-up campers...it's been asked and answered! :D

Whew! Dodge a close one there!

Seth, on a true note. Sometime you will have to ask a question that has been asked a thousand times. But the search here sucks. And the question might have been asked on page 12,23,64-65,71... of a 200 page thread, and it would be like finding a needle in a hay stack. So, you godda ask again, and be ready for the snark attack, but you'll get an answer if not a link.

Just try not to ask STOOPID questions. That includes non-questions like 'Noobie here, anyone got any advice?"
