Hello Sara, and welcome. Have you read the Burning Man First Timer's Guide http://www.burningman.com/first_timers/ and the Survival Guide in particular? http://www.burningman.com/preparation/event_survival/ I believe that's a good place to start.

Welcome S.C.! Best thing to do is to do is tear into this:

and if any questions are left unanswered, then, ask some "dumb" questions.
(And it helps to have a thick skin and sense of humor around here.)

Hey there, welcome to eplaya!

Have questions? Read this first: http://www.burningman.com/first_timers/
Everybody on eplaya is always excited to help first timers; but in sympathy for some of us old timers, please get your required reading out of the way before posting. As hard as it is to rein in the the excitement and enthusiasm, and as unbelievable as it might seem, most of your questions have already been asked and answered, if you just take a moment to read.

Now, let the adventure begin!

Sarah, welcome to eplaya!

Good idea to check it out before deciding to go! In the end I hope you decide to come 'Home', if not this year then maybe next year.

I'm glad some folks still do their homework before diving in head first!

But that name might become like the boy who cried wolf. One day someone will have a problem, and she wont come to help!
I say, stick to the cynical, we need more of that on the playa.
I have a little bit of Savannah with me. Shhh...

No, not really.
