Greetings from London

Post by kc1980 » Wed Jul 20, 2011 1:29 am

Hello All

So this year myself and 3 of my ridiculous friends are coming to BM from London. I've been reading this site and all the guides etc since we got our tickets and am feeling pretty prepared....(famous last words).

We'll be arriving on a big red london bus....well not quite - a regular RV (we have requested a red one though!)

The one thing we haven't yet done is joined a camp. I think we kind of thought we would just rock up and camp where we can, but having spoken to a few Burners I think it might be an idea to join a camp...so really my question is how do we do this? and can anyone recommend any good camps to join, or are we too late? Is it possible to join a camp once we get to BM?

Oh one other question - can anyone recommend anywhere to get the RV cleaned afterwards - we are taking it back to San Fran.

Thanks in advance for all the advice....please don't abuse me - I PROMISE i've been doing my reading!

See you all very soon!

KC xx

Welcome to eplaya!

Even tho it is a bit late to try and join a theme camp, that doesn't mean you can't try.

Here is a link to on How to join a theme camp.

Good luck!

Thanks Rabette!

Have been doing a little more reading...seriously everytime i think i've read everything along comes a whole lot of posts i've never seen before!

Anyway, from what i've gathered I am a little late to join a camp, and camps don't seem to actively seek new members. But I will deffo have a good luck, see what is out there and if i see a camp i like, and they like me then fabulous! Don't want to make the mistake of joining any old camp last minute...

Which is now making me think...what is it like to NOT join a camp?? As i said there are 4 of us going, if we turn up, and park our bus in one of the non reserved areas...isnt everyone else doing pretty much the same? And in that respect won't we just naturally become a kind of camp???

I don't want to join a camp so i've got access to showers/shade/cooked meals...i want to join one to meet people and participate...surely i can still do this without joining a camp??

And finally (for now)...can't I just start my own camp?? If so anyone want to join?!!

Cheers

KC

YES! YES! and YES!

Was that emphatic enough?

Get a feel for the lay of the land, scope out a good spot, speak with the neighbors if it looks like a good fit then set-up. There, you're a camp.

Your circle of acquaintances[read family] will grow. There is no minimum number of participants to become a "camp". In fact, I'd recommend not injecting additional dynamics into the situation at first. You won't go hungry for company and you leave the option open to get a really good fit before expanding or joining another camp next year.

But that's just me, YMMV.

Hey there, welcome to eplaya!
It seems that all your assumptions are spot on. Feel free to drop by our camp for root beer floats some afternoon.

Hey KC, Welcome to ePlaya!

Screw the camp thing! Your first year, just show up and go for it.
There will be 4 of you, so you have already join/made a camp! (I know I'm repeating other people, but what are ya gonna do)

If you want to be close to big sound camps, go for the 9 or 3 streets. If you want to be in the middle of things go for near 6. If you want to be on the very best side of the playa shoot for 3:30. (just kidding thats personal opinion).

You'll do great!

Cheers Guys

Thats decided then.....going it alone, with the hundreds of other people!!

As I said, Im going to try and make my RV look like a london bus...or at least pretty obviously british...so if you spot it then feel free to pop by for pimms, scones, tea, cucumber sandwiches...or more realistically decent conversation and a beer!!!

Jkisha - I will deffo pop by your camp for a root beer - i've been dying to know what that tastes like since i first watched Rosanne in the late 80s!

See you all there

Then you sir,
will either come to Jkisha's camp or mine, and try root beer.
Then you will try Jack Daniels,
Then you will try Jack Daniels in root beer!

I am going to go to a local brewery here that also makes root beer, get a half gallon and keep it cold just for you to try. I will also have some brand name A&W as I feel it mixes soooo amazingly well with Jack Daniels.

I am going to bring a hand full of "Root Beer Barrels" just for you!
They are little hard candies that taste kinda like root beer.

O shoot! I'm sorry!
Then you Madam!
will either come to Jkisha's camp or mine, and try root beer.
Then you will try Jack Daniels,
Then you will try Jack Daniels in root beer!
What is Wibbly Wobbly?
We will be camping at 3:30&G. My camp is called The Gnome Dome. You can find us by our 24ft wide dome, that will be Red with white dots. Kinda like a mushroom cap.
Also right out front will be my CO tie dye flag. The CO flag looks a lot like my little icon picture but rotated counter clock wise 90 degrees, and with out the Bman logo.

Hiya KC!
Been itching to post on this for a couple of days.
I'm a virgin burner from Cambridge UK. I'm coming alone.
I too decided that I didn't want to join a camp, because I might make the wrong choice. I definitely think that the best option is to go it alone for the first year.
I have my own camp ... number of campers = 1! You have 4 .. great!
I'm under canvas ... a nordic teepee with room for 9 people ... so I think I may have enough space for a party!
I'm with you ... done all the reading ... still feel unprepared.
I'm flying into San Fran on the Thursday - spending Friday and Saturday buying stuff, and then heading over to the Playa Sunday.
BTW ... I'm 49 year old bloke.
Have a good one!

you definately want head over to 3.30 as there where BDC&WB is, my suggestion? try thursday at for the meet'n'greet if you dont get there earlier.

Hi KC!

I'm so absurdly excited for you to try root beer. I am a strong advocate of the Root Beer Float in particular (root beer with vanilla ice cream). That's the pinnacle of the root beer experience, in my opinion. (If ice cream and carbonated drinks are nice in the default world, imagine how sublime they are when it's hot and dry?)

. . . Oh yeah, welcome to the board. :)

Oh, and most American root beer doesn't have a speck of beer in it. Or alcohol for that matter.
