Epic journey!

Post by Aussiemix » Thu Aug 25, 2011 11:18 am

After living in Minneapolis for the past 2 months I thought it wold be good to check out some other part of America. A extra week of thought and the tickets were sold out...damn it and too many scammers out there and outrageous prices to boot. I've scored a lift from Minneapolis to the gates where I'll be prepared for the week as long as I get a ticket! This sounds like a crazy adventure, actually it is but I hope worth it all the same.
I have a question...I intend to hang around the gate for a couple of days to get a ticket (hoping for face value), will I get frowned upon? Will I have to go back to Reno and try my luck there?
Before i came to America the only plan I had was to be with my girlfriend and check out burning man. I hope the second part of my adventure comes true.
I'll be bringing my didgeridoo, fire poi to contribute to the Burn.
I hope to meet you beautiful people there.

You're a mix of crazy and stupid, point blank. Don't even try going out there without a ticket. Get one now through whatever channels you have to. They're going for under $500 on Ebay at very worst.

DO NOT SHOW UP AT THE GATE WITHOUT A TICKET

Please do yourself a favor and read this: http://www.burningman.com/news/110725_tickets_soldout

"For those considering venturing out to Black Rock City without a ticket to "try your luck" purchasing one at or near the entrance to Burning Man, we ask that you do NOT do so, for your own safety and the well-being of the surrounding communities. The Black Rock Desert is an extremely remote, inhospitable environment with limited resources, minimal facilities, and few camping opportunities in the vicinity. You will NOT be allowed to camp overnight anywhere near the event site, and the nearest campgrounds are over an hour's drive away."

You're being way too charitable calling him only "...crazy and stupid..." I think had you called him an ignorent brain dead useless sparkle pony who deserves to die in the desert heat, that would have been closer to the mark. But that's just me.

If you show up at the Gate without a ticket in someone elses vehicle both you and everyone in said vehicle will be turned around & sent back to Reno. If they try to drop you off in Gerlach you can, and probably will, be arrested & jailed for loitering. You will delay your rides entry to the event by 6-8 hours (drive back to Reno, dump you, return). If your ride attempts to stow you away & you are discovered, and you probably will be, every single person in the car has their ticket confiscated & they are refused entry.

Think very long & hard about this.

You WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO "HANG AROUND" THE GATE. The vehicle you arrive in will not be allowed to let you out at the Gate- they will be sent back to Reno do drop you off. If you try to get out there & hang around the BLM has the right to arrest you.

Again, think very long & hard about this.

Your best bet is to have your ride drop you off in Reno and then you can attempt to get a ticket there. There will be rides from Reno to the event.
