When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle.
Then I realized that the Lord doesn't work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me

Welcome! and be sure to balance school with eplaya, it can be tough when there's so much to learn

Re: Newness
Thanks for the replies! Yeah I've read basically all the pages on the website. I'm already a survivalist so I don't think I'd find that many issues out in the desert (other than the heat, I hate heat = ( ), I just hope I get to go. Didn't even know BM existed until around a year ago.
Re: Newness
If you hate heat, you'll probably like the Cooling Your Tent or Van thread
viewtopic.php?t=33842
and the Hexayurts thread.
viewtopic.php?t=26890
and the "Keeping Cool" forum in general, although it's possible you have seen these things already.

Hey Zebus welcome to eplaya!
You'll be surprised how different a week in the desert is compared to a week in the mountains, plains, woods, or beaches.
We do lots of mountains and planes camping, so my first year I brought all sorts of gear that will only be needed once in 100 years on the playa.
Shit, BRC is even very different than The Great Sand Dunes, Taos, or Lake Powell.

Re: Newness
I don't doubt it. I've camped my fair share everywhere but a desert.

There is usually a breeze in Black Rock City, which makes it seem cooler than what the thermometer says.

Don't know where you are,
but every year, upon return from BRC, we find that it was hotter in our Defaultia home than in the desert...

Re: Newness
We broke down in Vegas on the way to the burn for two and a half days while they were having record breaking 120 degree heat. So, yeah, Black Rock CIty was downright chilly lol

Re: Newness
I live in Missouri, where the humidity is unbearable every summer. I remember at least one day when I went running this summer in the afternoon the 'temp' was 98 I believe, but with the humidity and heat index according to the weather channel on my phone it 'felt like' about 105.

Re: Newness
Missouri doesn't rhyme with misery for no reason!
The total lack of humidity in late August will be a wonderful change of pace!
With 11 months of preparations you'll be so prepared people wont even know your a virgin.
