Well allow me to introduce myself...
Well allow me to introduce myself...
Hello!
My name is Guy Shechter and I live just south of Boston. My curiosity about Burning Man has been steadily rising ever since I heard about it a few years ago, and after meeting and having an amazing experience talking to a burner, my curiosity has reached critical condition. Every year my friends and I talk about how we want to make the pilgrimage, but never actually put the effort required in orchestrating an adventure of such epic proportions. I go to many shows and festivals every year, traveling all over the country and having amazing experience. After meeting this burner I have realized the time has come to put Burning man in front of any and all other events. While these shows and festivals and experiences are all amazing and valuable, they lack the philosophical edge (quiet an understatement) that Burning Man seems to have. The best experiences I've had have nothing to do with who was playing on stage, or how big the light show was, but has everything to do with who was there and how I interacted with them.
I cannot wait to break free from the social norms that force their ways into our consciousness, and experience for a week a world where people treat each other as they should. For after all we are all one.
Thank you for taking the time to read my little introduction, I look forward to learning from all of you.
Guy

Welcome Guy! Make yourself at home here. There's lots to learn and plenty of great information.
Do I dare ask where south of Boston you're from? We may be neighbors!

Hey Guy! Glad you're here.
Black Rock City is not a perfect or ideal place--we don't actually always treat each other "as we should"; there are lapses, and some asshats--but for a lot of us, it has days or hours of realizing the unmet potential of the self and of other people. (And then? A few more asshats.)
You might love it, you might hate it, you might have some strange and conflicting middling experience.
Not knowing is part of the fun.

Welcome.
Savannah: I don't know what it is, but no thread here escapes alive. You'll get 1 or 2 real answers at minimum, occasionally 10 or 12, and then we flog it until it's unrecognizable and you can't get your deposit back.

Welcome to ePlaya Guy!!
Burning Man is the best, worst and most amazing experience I have ever had. The conditions can be harsh. I have long suspected that the desert is trying to kill us, but for all the challenges we encounter, Burning Man is completely worth it.
Please check out the Survival Guide: http://survival.burningman.com/
If you are researching subjects, adding the word "eplaya" to your google search will point you to possible answers. (ie: "eplaya shade" or "eplaya food storage", etc...)
If you do not find answers, feel free to ask here on eplaya (be forewarned that there is a high potential of snark, but if you can ignore that, you will be informed
)
If you go into this with an open and adaptive attitude, you will have the time of your life!!

Re: Well allow me to introduce myself...
What a warm welcome! Thank you everyone for your kind words.
I have started doing a lot of research. Read pretty much everything on the burning man website, and many many different threads about preparation. In fact I am putting together a document with some lists of food, equipment, and other aspects that must be taken into account, as well as links to pages and threads that are helpful. When its finished I will post it here for all virgins and young burners alike to use.
Thank you for trying to clarify things a bit Savannah. I realize that with any event this big nothing will be unanimous. For better or worse it still must be one hell of a culture change from the normal everyday life one experiences walking around a city (like Boston in my case).
With all the traveling and psychedelic adventures I have embarked on I have learned many time the less than fun experiences were the ones that taught me the most about myself...
