Virginia Virgin
Hey everybody, I'm new from Richmond, VA. I really want to go this summer if I can find a way to get there. Are there any other burners from VA or the Mid-Atlantic? If so, how do most of them get there? After reading the survival guide, it looks like it would be difficult to bring a lot of that stuff on a plane. I could survive with just what I had in my ruck, but I'd like to bring my bike and cooler.

Hi Waffenmeister.
At the top right of the main Burning Man website there's a link with regionals in it, and it yields this when you click on the map:
http://regionals.burningman.com/us_va.html
Maybe click through on those and see if they're still up & active. If not, go in there and join some lists in neighboring states; maybe you'll find a rideshare prospect. More opportunities crop up closer to the event.
Some folks join camps with meal plans (local or otherwise), and get the cooler issue settled in that fashion. Joining a camp is not necessary, however. Other people do just fine flying in and shopping.

Welcome to eplaya!
I'd also suggest starting with the regionals link, but Savannahs already on top of it.

The other thing I'd suggest is reviewing the Preparations section here on eplaya. There is a butt load of info on traveling to BRCSavannah wrote:At the top right of the main Burning Man website there's a link with regionals in it, and it yields this when you click on the map:

Welcome to eplaya.
Savannah: I don't know what it is, but no thread here escapes alive. You'll get 1 or 2 real answers at minimum, occasionally 10 or 12, and then we flog it until it's unrecognizable and you can't get your deposit back.

I am near Charlottesville, Va. I drive. 3 days, maybe 3000 miles one way. It is worth it to drive, as I have my Suburban set up to sleep in, and I can take a lot of stuff with me. I get 18MPG, so it costs a little more than flying, but it is worth it. I would, personally, not go if I had to fly in.
